I personally wouldn't get one, however it does seem like a cool car & looks decent, just a matter of personal preference & taste to me. Although being a 20+ yr old car I'd choose to stick to an fc simply because I like it better than the brz; the money I would be spending on payments could be spent on upgrades for my fc. Yes, its been stated earlier that ppl would rather just buy a newer sports car & drive without poping the hood @ every stop but I dont think that person would be a true enthusiast. Yea it may be fast from the factory but its not work that I put in to make it that fast. I do assume we all like working on & fixing up cars, if not....then your in the wrong field, let alone driving the wrong car lol.
I wanna hear how this car sounds!

"Made for" and "Made in" are not the same. This can easily be seen with Toyota Scion line. It's made for the USA, but every scion is made in Japan. (Not every Toyota is made in USA.)
When in doubt, look at the vin. It will usually tell you which plant it was made at.

There are tons of cars out there that are a threat to fc's (stock of course) but with the retail price of that new car i make a fc better than a lot of cArs. And why would anyone spend money on a new sport car just for the mp3 navigation and comfortable seats. For that i buy a sedan.

FRS/BRZ are both nicely planned out vehicles for the current time we are in, it's all down to personal preference like some of you mentioned. I have several friends who are looking to switch, love the style, and think the price is fair. My brother drives a '87 prelude and wants to switch to a new car soon, I said consider the FRS.
All three generations of the RX-7 are timeless designs, I fell in love with the FD before I even got to know about cars, eventually I grew more passion with the FC and got one; and the FB is pretty awesome too.
Now, back to the price comparison... in Canada the FRS/BRZ are priced around $25000, with that amount of money, and invest that all at once into a na FC, I think it'll be fairly easy for us to build an outstanding vehicle that looks new and drives fantastic. Strip the car completely, customize the interior with alcantara and new trims, aftermarket digital gauges, modern A/C, new electronic controls, PLUS all the personal touches you would like to have....
Point is... what drives your passion and which do you like more? Just stick with what you love and go with it.

A threat to the FC maybe........
But who really gives a ****? Those who are jealous of the luster of a new car.
Stop comparing your old cars to these new ones..... the grass is always greener on the other side until you have to water and mow the damn thing....
You bought your RX-7 for a reason, leave it at that.
Your car is old, aftermarket support is not what it used to be, etc etc.....
The more you talk about how one car is better than yours, you're giving more praise to the car.
I for one LOVE the car..... you cant get any other BRAND NEW RWD car for the price, except the Genesis coupe 2.0t, but that car has anemic power and absurdly overweight.
my buddy just got one and he let me borrow it while he was on TDY for 3 months to alaska..... I love this thing. And it does pretty decent on gas for being a flat4.
Theres already some shop that built a turbo kit and at 4psi the car put down a bit over 200hp to the wheels. Not bad IMO.
This car isnt some game changer, but it is the beginning of what we might see as another golden age for sports cars

all I can say to this thread is apples and oranges. it's like comparing nes original mario with the wii version. the new one looks all flash and yeah it's fun...for a while but damn there's just something about original mario that can't be beat. (not quite a good comparison as we aren't talking about old n new rx7s but like I said apples n oranges)

with that said, i honestly can't picture people driving 21+ year old scion Frs's around in 2024 like we drive our 1986+ cars.. just sayin'

Hell no! it's not even a conversation worth having.
If mazda were smart they would position the new rx-7 like they did the FC.
They would keep it light and design it on the miata chasis so the base model would be light and compete with the 86/BRZ they would not offer a convertible and the suspention would be more competent as to not canabalize miata sales. They would also have a mazdaspeed version which would of course be turbo and compete with the 370z/camaro/mustang/genesis etc.
Also, they would be advised to do so before nissan squeaks out their S-chassis reincarnation. I can already see how the story will go "lackluster sales for ressurected rotary" They will blame the economy, give credit to nissan/toyota/subaru and ponder if the RX-8 left a sour taste in the mouths of consumers, when the truth will be, thaty they simply dragged their feet and brought it to market too late.

that is a good point, according to rumor, Mazda is due to announce the new rotary car early 2013.
from what i've heard (from a couple sources) sounds pretty good. the car weight is 1/2 a GTR. they are playing with mass produced carbon fiber. on the engine front, target hp is 300-350. direct injection, triple spark plug non turbo.
it sounds pretty exciting, IMO
BTW if you wanted something like the BRZ in a Mazda, they have this thing called the Miata

The miata has always been underpowered, even when it was 400lbs lighter than the bloated mini gt cruiser it has become. If you want a BRZ a miata isn't really close.....in its current form.
"So well"....the BRZ does handle like a dream, and the RX-8 handles nicely as well, just not significantly better than a refreshened FC/FD for a fraction of the cost. "So much power" :lmao: ....that's just incorrect. New(er) cars do provide choices for your dollar, it just so happens they are nearly all poor choices from a performance value perspective.

Given that Madza is suffering billions in losses a low volume, low price and therefore low margin car would be financially irresponsible. Bankruptsy or being acquired and digested are far more likely than a new RX7.
I do think that RX7 owners who built and drove their cars in HS and college are likely buyers for a lightweight FR sports coupe once they graduated and gotten financially stable.
Unless they get married and their bride takes their ***** and puts them in a wooden box on the dresser. Then they get a soulless FF Honda or Toyota. Of course if she drops them and stomps on them, they get to drive a PriusC and wear a blue windbreaker.
That commercial is like being lemon partied.
