you forgot about, seeing about 17 other fr-s's and 14 brz's everyday, having to face the sad truth that your $26,000 car does an 18 second 1/4 mile, face that if you REALLY wanted a slow *** car with AC you could've just bought a 2013 nissan versa for like $12,000.

i'm just saying, it really isn't too much car for the price.. if you wanted a lightweight-ish sports car with luxeries, why not an rx8 for half the price?

because people want NEW CARS not old shitty cars, that's why

one day some of you will get what I am saying, yes I used to think "hey here I am driving my old RX7, it performs great and costs me little money, its unique", then I realized not that many people care and to them its just a reject old car.

I like my old reject car, but I hardly think it should be compared to these 2 cars

Compare your vert to modern "sports convertibles" Rob. It performs better, looks just as good if not better, has ac, and gets about the same gas mileage and all for (what should be) less than half the cost. The only "value" in most new cars is in trying to impress others.

Don't let the in laws make you feel too bad about your "little old import car" People have their areas of expertise if you are driving a new evo, or a camaro, or a gt40, go right ahead and speak ill of my FC. If you are driving a toyota avalon, or a prius, or a nissan juke stfu and keep it moving because you opinion doesn't matter.

If a waitress came in and started telling you how to build boats, would you pay her any mind?

the point is just because it doesnt appeal to the small crowd of people here doesnt mean its not a good car that a average joe can buy and enjoy right away with no worries

I dont feel bad about my little old car, but its just that- no matter what I do to it the car will never, ever have the same feeling a new car does. I have had 4-5 new cars while i own this RX7, and used cars as well, and each time I get a new car it not only makes the car I replaced it with seem prehistoric it makes the RX7 feel even more simple and old

There is no more rx7 or rx8... So no competition.

I think the toyosubie thing has direct competition with the Hyundai gen coupe. My mom has one. Rwd, turbo, decent power and cheap.

she hates Rx7's. But a few months ago I had my girlfriends t2 parked on the side of the road at a friends house. Parents passed it and my mom said to my father "wow, look at that really nice car. It looks almost like Keils! (That's me)" Father called me and told me what my mom said. Lol My t2 and girlfriends are matching twins if you didn't get that. Epic fail on her part. I think she secretly wants one.

^pffft good luck with the next gen RX and 1.6 as its been cancelled until further notice.

A weekend track car with, a 200hp boxer engine, rear wheel drive, 6 speed transmission, semi racing seats and very limited electronic driving systems for under 25K?

Uhh yes please.....

This thing weighs next to nothing and u can throw it around all u want, steering input is great with a touch of oversteer...

Working at Toyota myself, Ive actually fit a spare set of wheels and tires in the back along with the necessary tools and a helmet to track the car....pretty impressive for a small car this size.

More like face the sad truth that your a moron, this car was built (mostly) after the AE86 principle. They didn't need tons of HP as they aren't straight line cars, or maybe you just didn't realize that because you don't want to admit that Toyota put out a really decent and cool car. Its the first rear wheel drive sports car Toyota has made since the Supra was discontinued and they based it off of heritage cars that are known for agility in corners.....hence no need for a 13 sec quarter.

It's just at a glance when i first seen it. It reminded me of an fc,just a bit. In this day and age a rwd import thats not 35 k or has. Z badge or a 3.5 v6, don't even mention hyundai. Yeah there coming up but all their syling looks like a bimmer vs Lexus vs nissan vs KIA LOL with a touch of benzo. I love my fc but the fz is cool. Remember the rx7 was affordable performance in its day, not the fastest, but fun to drive, thats what Scion is banking on. If Mazda doesn't get a new rx7 soon my 25k may be in toyotas pocket. Maybe not......

this is my second fc never finished the first due to hard times so i have yet to really get into a decent reliable fc but i cant wait with that said i think its anticipation of the cars that make people want them the most but for me FRS/BRZ look good to me my next dd car if i dont get a truck is either frs/brz/rx8....and im hoping they bring the rx7 out but give it a new look and a turbo!!!!! im not the bigest car guy but i do respect the cornering that both cars were designed for same as the fc.

and as soon as i replace the malfunctioning climate control unit and new condenser add some free on and there is my ac...as well as replacing the carpet and racing seat.....

It also has 75 more hp and 125 more ft lbs of torque bud.. And I'm sorry but i'd rather drive a car that was 1500 lbs heavier than the UGLY *** brz & miata!!

i'd hate to say it, but the new miata is hideous. and the brz is just another over-rated + underpowered FAD machine like the s13. i know the fc isn't much different, but at least it has a significant racing heritage to be proud of not to mention my 20 year old car is styled better than most cars being put into production..

Didn't you say you haven't test driven one yet? Why don't you go and do that first.

The Genesis doesn't have "significant racing heritage" either.

You don't need a lot of power to have fun on a race course.

I like the FRS. Its cool seeing other manufactures build cars like this. But I couldn't justify $24k+ with interest on top of that. For my preferences, that money would get me: An FD+ a good amount of money to put into it, A good chunk towards an NSX fund, a 911, or a field full of non running FC's. Or a chunk of cash to throw at a house.
Just because its new, does not make it better. One has the opportunity to pick the best cars, throughout history.

But,

I completely understand this. A car that has a warranty, and no problems.

...

The half plastic engine and cheap interior bugs the hell out of me. What happened to the days of aluminum intakes and soft materials used in interiors...

FRS, meet your direct match... from 20 years ago.

Same weight, same 2+2 layout. Same 200 horsepower. Same entry level sports car.

Wonder when the fc came out what group of obscure car idiots were sitting around the campfire saying how much better of a car they could build for the money that would have more power?

This thread is useless. The majority of people who drive have no desire to upgrade, refurbish, or rebuild a car that is 20+ years old. For those who enjoy working on their own car and modifying it the rx7 is a fun car. There are many drivers who wish to just drive a rwd car, have a decent amount of fun,and not worry about popping the hood. For those people the frs may be an option.

I like the FR-S/BRZ, and I hope other manufacturers follow suit. With today's ever-tightening emissions and fuel economy regulations, big heavy cars with big high output engines are hard for manufacturers to build. If they go back to the true sports car formula (small and light), they'll be able to build fun cars while still adhering to all the regulations by installing smaller engines that pollute less. Long live sports cars!

You obviously have been ignoring the company Dodge lately. They have been "re-creating" tons of large cars with huge engines. In my opinion, they just create a new vehicle and just slap an old school car name on it. Ram, Challenger, Charger, Chrysler 300, Durango, Magnum, Jeep Cherokee, Jeep commander, and Chrysler aspen come with the 5.7 hemi. I can't even list the cars that come with the still huge displacement 3.6L v6 "pentastar" engine.

why would anybody even compare a 20 something year old car with one that's pretty much designed from the ground up to be a poor man's sports car 20 something years later ...
