Arrow It looks pretty...

Ever hear the joke about Fords? That the engines are soo pretty, that you see people on the side of the road starring at them?

How many rotary engines have you had to rebuild, or replace in a year?

If you wanted to, you can put a brief reason why.

Zero.

Why? Well, lets see. My first car had 123k on the od and the engine has roughly 3.5k on it. I've driven it exactly 40 miles since i've owned it. Around the neighboorhood a few times and back from where i got it.

My second never got driven by me. Bought it at a junkyard with 200k on it. Motor was believed to be original. Turned over easy as pie by hand and rubbing a scribe in the exhaust ports made me believe the rotor housings were near perfect. Also made 6 nice, even pops when turned over by hand.

You make it seem like rotaries are glass or something. It's only when you start messing with them inproperly or neglect them that they **** the bed.

^^^Hahaha what the biblical ****?

Yup none. Put a japanese junkyard luce engine in mine (with good compression) a year and a half ago. It has given me no problems.

I hate that rotaries have a **** reputation.

+1. Defending rotaries and correcting all the misinformation out there gets tiring after a while (I stopped trying). On the other hand, it does keep some of the idiots away. Some of the idiots still manage to get in, but they don't stay for long. Unfortunately, they perpetuate the **** reputation once they get too frustrated by their own stupidity .

Yeah, those wankels are a joke. In IMSA GTO class they won the 24 hours of Daytona 10 years in a row and in GTU class they won 10 manufacturer's championships.

Complete Garbage.

Never replaced a motor, roomies GXL has 119k on it. 118 compression on rear rotor and 120 on the front. My TII was rebuilt by previous owner, only 33k on it. Dont forget the 787B winning 24hrs of Lemans.

Rotaries do get a bad rep other people. A classmate told the Ford joke(a little corny).

Stanello, really?

I'm new to the rotary, Its my first car and its a gift to drive it everyday. It has 178,889 one it and is still running strong.I haven't even had a for a month, and everyone at school wants to drive it! I'm fascinated that we haven't needed to do anything to our engines with this many miles!

hehe see how long it lasts at 178,xxx. More than likely you'll ne looking at a rebuild sooner or later so start saving.

I have had two 7's. The first was a GXL that had 75,000 on it when I bought it and had 120,000 on it when i sold it and was running like a champ. The second is a TII that came with a brand new motor in it when I bought it. I don't plan on a rebuild anytime soon but it always a possibility with any motor.

261,XXX STOCK miles on my S4 n/a FC. It's been decently maintained, but the previous owner trashed it with his 5 young kids. He did say that he put a half quart of ATF in the oil every other oil change, so maybe that had something to do with it, but I haven't do it to it, and it's lasted me almost 50K. But I do have a 115K spare motor sitting waiting, for when my motor pops

drive it safly and keep maintence up to par and you will keep it going for quite awhile, loophole is how the previous owners took care of it... replaced mine about 4k ago hope she lasts awhile(i learned from my mistakes, at least most of em)

My 86 n/a was up to 280k km's. There was no rebuilds done. I know that because I got all the service records, there was nothing for engine work just maintenance. It's still running strong, by someone else.
