dont mean to be a *****, but if your worried about insurance and accident liability then you shouldnt be modding your car in the first place since its not for you. These cars are well over 15 years old and not worth much, despite all the money you could drop into it, its still an old mazda to insurance concerns, and the rotary doesnt hold any value

Apparently you do not realize that the person that rear ends you can also sue the **** outta you for this. Its not just about the insurance covering your car. Get it?

THen they have to be f***king blind! Im sorry but I do not aggree with your guys statements, you guys should leave your cars parked in your garage/driveway whatever just to be safe if you are worried about accidents/etc etc.. Dont even go out your house becuase anything can happen, the sky could fall on you etc..

Just stick with your stock tail lights and plain jane rx7s

just for kicks here you go

Well... you could always have a set of unmolested stock lights that you could install after getting the car towed home from a rear collision caused by a moron not paying attention to the road that can't see your illegal tail lights properly, lol.

So when the adjuster comes out he sees stock tail lights. Unless there is a police report done at the scene stating "illegally modified lights" you should be ok. Just pull the old switcharoo. Swap the "modded" (I think that's the word kids are using these days) lights out for the "already perfect from the factory" lights when nobody is looking.

At least he's not spray painting black over the lights and reflectors... Dumbest idea I've ever seen!

No reason to get butthurt Hypertek. Nobody is dissing the taillights in terms of design or execution, they actually look good. People are just concerned with legality for a street car.

I don't see how this is a potential rearending. Those are bright as ****, though not bright enough to cause temporary blindness or anything like that. Hell, look at the newer Cadillacs, G35's, even some Hyundai's- they all have bright *** LED tail lights and you are well aware of that when you are behind one.

a rear end collision would be least of my concerns.. pretty much anything you do to your car is not legal..

You don't live in socal. so essentially suing because inability to see rear tail-lights/brake lights is BS. Also it wouldn't be an issue if they are already destroyed from the accident. Essentially in socal 40+% of all annual accidents are rear collisions. Insurance companies don't listen anymore because so many occur each year. BTW in california its technically illegal for cars to have any different tire then the OE model that came with the car. Cops are dicks out here. My friend got a ticket for a modified exhaust, it was a stillen exhaust, because it was a steve millen Z, it came that way factory.

What I'm trying to explain is that if you do get rear ended, your insurance company may deny your claim based on the fact that you were running taillights not approved for on road use. The problem is not damage to the car itself, but damage to you or someone else. If you break your back for example, and your claim is denied, then you could suddenly be $50,000 in debt and without a job until you are rehabilitated. And if the other party happens to sue, suddenly it is not your insurance company footing the bill, but you.

I'm not insulting your light mod. I think they're quite nice actually. Just warning you that there could be consequences to doing so that you have not thought of.

And for the record, my car is insured as a modified car.

It's not a function of how well the lights work, it's a function of how much attention the other driver is paying. The last time I was rear ended I was at a complete stop at an intersection for several minutes with my brake lights on.

Old enough to know how the insurance industry works. And to realise that in the event of a major accident, a refused insurance claim could ruin the rest of my life.

looks nice, regardless of its legality, although they may be able to argue that they are not the original headlights, they sure as hell can't say they couldn't see them, atleast not truthfully. In my experience, LED lights have been extremely bright, in some cases too bright, regardless, quality mod!

Mine too. The guys who 'mod' the **** out of their cars are also the ones most likely to be involved in an accident of some sort, and even more have no insurance or are under-insured. My FC is insured to $8K through Allstate. Whats your worth?

Picked up these resistors from radioshack, will be soldering them into the turn signal harness, these should solve the speed problem, im hoping 8ohm 20watt will do since thats all radio shack had..

The basic theme of Aaron's post is that the insurance company looks for any way to not give you money.

Solution to quick turn signals

About 5 bucks for 2x 8ohm 20watt resistors from radio shack.. Note these are known to get warm/hot if you have your turn signals on for extended time so mount them somewhere safe.. Figure this should work, i doubt this would get flaming hot.. tested it a few minutes in my hand before making the mount. Turn signals back to normal speeds

have fun im done =p

Mature and responsible owners of modified vehicles are far less likely to make an insurance claim, and statistics from the specialty insurance companies back this up. My car is not insured for "replacement or repair" yet as it has not been appraised, but I do carry 3 million in liability.

Well, sort of. Really I was trying to make people aware of the potential downsides when modifying certain aspects of the car. Just like running non DOT brake pads may make you completely liable if you rear end someone.
