Got in accident and drove it home
This little incident proved to me two things, that most accidents happen within 5 miles of home, and that FCs are strong cars that can take a few hits with minimal damage.
Yesterday I went to an AHA hockey game. The round trip mileage is about 198 miles. About 11:30 last night my tripometer turns 193 miles, just as I am coming over a little knoll. As soon as I crest the knoll I see it, a huge washout that came off the bank, full of dirt, ice and snow. I was doing about 65 mph and had no time to hit the brakes. As soon as the back tires hit this **** I was sideways heading for the other lane. I tried to correct, but the wet roads and my tires being full of ice and dirt didn't want to listen to my input. I ended up back in my lane, back in the wrong lane and into the snow bank ( ice bank). As soon as the nose hit (still doing approx 50+ mph) the car whipped around stuffing the rear and front into the bank over and over. After 5 total hits (3 in the front and 2 in the rear) the car came to a rest and stalled. My friend and I hop out of the car, shaken up to all hell. An onlder couple stop to see if we are alright, which we were. I get back in my car and start it up ( No Problem!) and back it out of the bank. Drive it 100 feet down the road, everything seems fine. I get out and tell the older couple that the car is fine and they leave. I got back in the car and drive the remaining 4.5 miles to my house.
I haven't seen the car in the daylight yet, but the only thing I noticed that happened is the drivers side fender came undone at the bottom between the door and wheel well. This doesn't surprise me though as the fender is rotten there.
Also had the snow bank not been there I would have ended up in the river.
I GOT LUCKY!!!!

I just went out and checked for damage and all is well, as I mentioned before the fender is all that got messed up. the bottom is flapping freely and the whole fender bulged out about 1/2 an inch, separating from the inner wheel well.
Oh and it was an AHL hockey game ( AHA, what a dumbass).

I hit a small truck(Ranger/S-10 size) in the rear doing about 40-50MPH, and his tow hitch raped my front end.
However, besides some body panels, the frame rails only had minor damage that wouldn't affect safety or body rigidity. +1 for the FC

guys, there is almost no damage. If my fender wan't already junk ( before the crash) I could easily just massage it out with minimal effort.

FC's are very robust, my example:
Last year i picked up this near mint (aside from crash damage) 88 TII for $800
it was hit pretty hard but everything is in the right place and the shock towers are the correct distance apart. I have a spare door and I'll be prepping for paint soon.
So can anyone validate the if the 4 star crash rating is official or not?

I don't care if it is official or not, I just hit a bank of ice multiple times at roughly 50 mph and it did alot les damage than your fender had on it.
Not trying to be an a$$hole, just saying official or not, they do well in front (and rear) impacts.

I rolled mine and sat it on the roof. It had a very minimal dent between the windshield and the sunroof, both fenders were barely dented, and the hood had a little indention from where it was sitting on it. Well, and both mirrors were destroyed, but that's obvious. The sunroof even still worked. Had I been allowed, I could have driven it home. It still ran after rolling, sitting for about 3 hours, and being flipped back over. And my battery had never been tied down.

Most accidents happen close to home...Because that's usually where you are a majority of the time! and that's usually where you do your most driving and pulling in and out into traffic.
Sorry for bein a smartass. It's just one of those nights.
