did I get ripped off at the gas station?

So the fuel light went on tonight and I stopped by the local 76 to fill up my s5 gxl. I figured I'd be putting in like 10-11gallons like usual but the gas pump kept going up to an amazing 16.7 gallons. I'm new to rx7s so can someone elighten me as to what the actual size of the gas tank is?

My previous 89 convertible had an amazing gas light....i better be REAL close to a gas station when it came on. Twice I rolled into the same gas station just down the road from my house, engine had died and i rolled up to the pump on inertia alone. Luckily the gas station was downhill a bit.

My second 89 convertible I seem to have more time to get to a gas station once the light comes on.

But yeah around an 18 gallon tank. I've got a TII swap now so I use 92-93 octane, you should see the gas attendants look at me when I tell them I need $45 in gas.

To answer your question about whether or not their ripping you and us off, yeah. Hopefully you realize, on top of the existing markup, they charge an additional 9/10ths of a penny per gallon. They dont give you that 1/10th back. Plus, how the **** can anyone legally charge you an amount that doesnt match our currency.
Its like the Office Space Virus, taking fractions of penny's from all of us, millions and millions of us.

I want my 75 cents back.

3.38/gal

Also: They don't actually steal the extra 1/10ths. The amount of fuel you pump is multiplied by the price and then you pay. The machines do not round up either. All gas stations, in NY state atleast, have to be tested annually by weights and measures for these sorts of tricks and deficiencies and stations can be fined heavily for not having a proper machine.

Yes, if you purchace at least 10 gallons, all 10/10 is accounted for, and you dont get charged fractions. Buy less than 10 gallons ,and you dont get the fractions back. They check and calibrate annually here too, however as you should all know, pumps and meters like that should be checked for accuracy weekly to remain 99% accurate. This becomes evident when your pumping and you hear air coming through, stopping gas flow for a very short time, and see that the pay scale just keeps climbing.

Here in socal its about $3.6x for premium at the cheapest gas station in my city. $3.4x for regular. <--this is at Arco

at the shell station its about $3.6x for regular.

tomoaac, man. i feel ya buddy. that is horrid. i know europe is very expensive, but i didnt realize it was that bad. No wonder mopeds are so extreamly popular over there. i couldnt get past in my head how regular men could ride those things around.

To own a car in europe, you got to be a baller.

I just paid 2.99 for regular yesterday, and that was at a Shell. Most places are more like 3.05-3.09, though.
Also, s4's have about a 16.5 gallon tank.

PENDING LEGISLATION PROHIBITING FRACTIONAL CENT PRICING OF GASOLINE AND DIESEL FUEL

1.http://www.users.qwest.net/~taaaz/AZ...%20LEGISLATION
2.http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A06219?A06219= NY Specific Pending Legislation.

What is 9/10 of a cent worth?
So the gas companies take an extra 9/10 of a cent for every gallon of gas we buy--what is that actually worth?

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), "prime suppliers" of "motor gasoline" reported sales of 372,833.5 thousand barrels sold in February 2007. Each barrel represents 42 gallons, and to determine the value of 9/10 of a cent for each gallon, we did the following calculation:

372,834 x 1000 x 42 x .009 = $140,931,063

That means that in February 2007, gas companies collected an extra $141 million USD because of their unique pricing practices. Assuming Februrary is a rough average for the year, that's $1.7 billion USD in additional revenue!

above from

You guys will argue anything without researching.

Funny you should mention this, one time driving though West Virginia on a road trip with a friend we backed up my old Monte Carlo SS and my old 89 GTUs to the same pump and filled both cars up, well the GTUs took about 18 gallons and the SS took 18 gallons too. While I was walking into pay my friend parked the SS. When the attendant asked which pump and looked at the total she was stunned that I was able fit 36gallons into “that little car”. You should have seen the look on her face, coupled of course with being cross eyed, slack jawed and hair lipped. She looked just like her Uncle Dad standing next to her.
