Ashleyanne, I'm trying to figure out if that is a real picture or photoshopped. I thinking it wasnt originally a vert, with a coupe top grafted on because the vert doors are longer with no support to the tops of the windows. which means that was ALOT of body work, but what puzzles me is it looks like a vert trunk, so thats why its either a Coupe with the rear window customized and then added a trunk or its a photoshopped picture. But I'm not sure.

Looks photoshopped.
You can tell where they blurred the trunk and the road right above the trunk.

that's not hypertek's car photshopped?
he has those same little mirrors

looking at his car you can see how that was photoshopped where the hatch starts- wonder if he knows his car was grafted

Well ,thats 4 phottoshopped and 1 not sure. The photoshopps have it. Unless someone steps foward to say and prove us different. By the way lets imagine for a second that fc was for real, the way the top was grafted on there permanently, you might as well have bought a Coupe in the first place. Defeats the purpose of having a vert.

it might be in a year but me and my friend are gonna make a hard top just for the back half of the top. one reason for this is so the car will still be a targa and a vert. we boath have verts and his is for drift only. so it wont have a top at all. when i say drift only i mean this car will never see road time. more than likely we will test it on his car. plus he is a body man that used to make hard tops for boxter's for a place called kanetic's they made quite a few. so his know how and my funding we will have at least one hard top and like my other post we will make it so we can put a roof spoiler on it... i dont know why i just love that look... lol

It is photoshopped because i begged and begged and begged and started this thread called "coupe out an fc" or something like that a year or two ago. I wont take credit for the shop because i have no clue how to do that stuff but i will take credit for the idea/brainchild and my inspiration was angry earl's and drift union's cars.

Good stuff. That peanut shaped box most of you think inside, i like to cut into little tiny pieces and light on fire.

If you want a part made and it doesn't exist yet, one should think highly of making it themselves. Just do homework, figure out what it's going to take and drive at it as hard as you want. I still have yet to start on this thing and i'm reminded of it every 4 or 5 months or so.

your funny, the issue is there is no way to have a functioning soft top and a hard top on this car, period. People come along every so often and swear they are going to do it and vanish.
We are talking about a car not worth anything and one that is availible in a coupe that would offer some cargo space as well.

Its just not worth it and you still have the issue of mounting the top to the vehicle, if you are going to make it permanent then just glass the soft top and try your hand at bodywork- good luck on that and I hope not to see your car in the junkyard

i have no idea if it would fit or not, but the glass from the s13 coupe is the kind that bends on the corner. I should photoshop that and see how it turns out. just a thought though.

Personally I think the notch back just looks better even if it is heavier, with 400+ hp it wouldn't matter too much... And a hard top even if it was permanent would be sweet! And I know people are saying just get a hatchback but I already have one, it's not the same...

Smile Revive the Hard Top Convertible ideas

First of all Hardtops built for the "OTHER" Verts seems to rounded on the back end .See first 2pict ,for the side windows area it would have to be more squared off, but it can be done, keep in mind, like I mentioned earlier that when you reach your destination and if you want to put the top down and drive around, where do but you put it? Next idea the hard top convertible , Will be alot of man hours and expenses, but,,, theoretically could be done. see next 5 picts: I'd like this vision, but I'm open, to any good ideas,Note: photoshopped pict I did the material would have to be fiberglassed or sheet metaled or???? rear window would most likely have to be flatten, like a Honda Del Sol , the targa top would still be functional , the motors would probably need to be removed so the roof line would fit down below the bodyline, and behind the trunk area a flap that opens up backwards, to close in and streamline the roofline to the trunk line ,can use tonnec cover humps to hide this fact, As long as the targa top folds down and the motors removed ,,,,,it could possible be done.

There's thousands of forum members out there, some engineers, bodyrepair people and mechanics, even the Mazda builders , perhaps the idea could sink in and and someone will step foward and create it. We contribute whatever ways we can, My Mission is to Collect , Gather, put together ideas, and put it out there, Stimulate and Motivate , The Mazda RX7 Vert is not dead, and I truely believe it'll come back again. In the mean while if that goal is not attainable for you, hows about the simple rollbar behind the drivers seat to enhance the look, and or if you like music, heres some Ideas cool placement for the speakers.

I have a glass shop, I have been involved with many prototype projects - some with patents applied. I can tell you that the R&D to develop this would never be recouped and the final product would not be practical to maintain a hardtop and a operating soft top.

I recall repairing 2 hard top conversions for corvettes and these pieces cost the owners $4000+ by the time it was on the car painted ( the price has since dropped ) - what RX7 owner is going to lay out that kind of money?? These were what I would consider to be nice units, they had headliners, large rear defroster glass and had that factory look and you didnt drill or modify the car to mount it. It could be removed easily. Then what happens after someone puts all that hard work is someone copies it who didnt have to absorb all that R&D to make the plug for the mold and fit the product. You will see hardtop specials in the vendor section of the forum by those who always copy others work

The biggest issue with the car is having a operating convertible roof. Meaning I can hit the switch and the top goes down, people have hoops, roll bars, speakers, etc- but the roof is no longer functional or they have to remove the targa section and store it outside of the car.

For a show car it might not be a issue, for the regular guy who might get caught in the rain on the way home or doesnt want the sun beating down on his head when its 90+ degrees we need a operating roof.

If the car had a rigid boot to hide the roof under it would alot simpler to design a hardtop. Otherwise where is it going to mount and be removable to allow operation of the soft/hard top? If a top manufacturer was ever to make a soft top replacement that removed the targa section it would open some possibilities, but lets face it that will never happen because lets face it who would buy it?
