Did anyone ever make these?
I really don't see how it would attached and remove easily around the body and side windows.

I have never seen one, people talk about it, they talk a good talk, I guess then they realize how difficult this would be

You want a coupe buy a coupe!

I already have a convertible which is a ton of fun.

I saw a hard top in the junk yard and had an idea to cut the roof off. It was just an idea.

Upon further review there's no way to fab a rear window or seal where the side windows meet the top.

you cant just "cut the roof off", it is far more involved then that, sealing the back window would be the least of the issues

This wont happen and if it did there wouldn't be enough interest to mass produce. I have a vert it wasn't my first choice but for $500 I couldn't say no. I think of a hard retractable convertible top like what you would see on a BMW or a Volvo. Way to much work and not worth the effort.

sadly my old prototype was dwestroied before and copys could be made.since then i have got a few ideas form fell rx7club members like: ussing honda prelude rear glass(my Prototype had a plexi which i realy didn't like how it looked.)

sadly i nolonger have the kinda time needed to work on this project aswell as my B234FT biuld while working second shift at Boeing of Charlston.

if i ever do get back around to this i will lobby for shine auto to massproduce it as i would not eb able to keep up with demand.

yours sounds like it was more permanent?
to market a removable top that would not render the OEM soft top useless is very difficult and when complete no one would pay the money for it anyhow

(This is from a prrevious post )Now heres some picts with the top up, its not as flattering, I just hope one day someone out there really creative could make a nice removable 1 piece hard top, and, or better yet, a really hot retractablle hard top like the new miatas have. that would be the ultimate 2nd gen vert, hands down. Picts of that too.

I wonder what the center section looks like with no material on it?
I bet that guy smoothed it out and painted it- seems like a good idea

@RXVERT

i really like the way that vert has the top. there is just something about it that i like.

retractable hard tops seem to be the way some cars are going. i think its a smart move because you dont have to deal with the top getting torn or cut in anyway, but yea the bad part is it will be expensive as hell if it breaks.

Other ideas : #0 Carbonfiber the targatop, #1 Fabricate a rear end like this piece for corvettes, that would flow into the hard targa top (already seen) which could still be removable if fabricated right. #2 fabricate a light bar like the ones they use on a mustang or a mercedez. #3 & #4 Years ago I tried using a tounea cover from a honda s2000, did not work well but theres other tounea covers styles that could be fabricated.

That is a Great idea IMO.

Or what I was thinking about today, removable top that resembles the shape of a cosmo roof.

Regardless, if someone decides to make and sell these and they look decent, I'd be in for sure.

I repaired a fiberglass top for a fairly new corvette, it was a removable hardtop when the car only came soft top, the guy paid $5000 for this top, it had real glass in the rear- I can bet no one would pay even half that

You really have to think it out, with a 1 piece hard top, when you get to your destination, and you say to yourself, wow, the weathers awesome, can you remove the top by yourself (if need be), and then where do you put it ??? However for those states where its more cold and rainy for the winter months the 1 piece hard top makes sense.

ive been pondering this also i was thinkin of using a roof and rear glass off of a s13 coupe but pondering it is as far as it went one reason i thought of a s13 roof is i thik it would look sick with a orgin roof spolier... as for how the targa looks with no fabric on it my car has no fabric on it its just painted black the car white and it looks good... there is really not that much smoothing out to do

I had this other option idea : Since the roofline on the vert looks pretty decent as is, how bout makeing a fiberglass mold of the back half the the vert roof (which should be removable) and that the back half still would connect to the targa top portion, the only major difference is that the rear window part is modified to be like the Honda Del Sol ( glass staight downwards) Now this is very crude photoshop, but just so you get an idea I've darkened out the rear window on the picture, ,,, you have to imagine it with the Honda Del Sol style rear window built into it.

I do not like that look at all, even when they used to do it to hatchbacks, even on the BMW convertibles I do not like it

There's, stock verts, or just the guys who just slap on a bodykits only ,then theres the guys who like to customize and, THAT , is very Personal thing, when they do this They build them to there liking, they have to drive it and live with it. There is no right or wrong here, When I throw my ideas out there, Its like a Buffet the individuals choose what they like or dislike, this forum is to learn procedures and swap ideas , I thought? Don't Hate:nod the messenger.
