I have driven my Rx7 1,117 miles, I bought it in February with 178,889 original miles. Its a 87 GXL N/A; I told myself that I would re-build my engine in May. But a lot of personal stuff has came up, so I can't really go ahead with it. How long can I last if I keep up with the maintenance? This shouldn't be that technical, just be realistic. I've read other forums were people had a bunch of miles on their engine, but I'm still a bit scared because I don't want to jinx myself, or drive in fear that any moment, my engine is gonna call it quits. I have to make it a month. I trust you guys' answers.

Restate question: How long do you predict my engine will last?
I have 85 Compression in both rotors.

Hmm, 85 psi is getting close to 'low' territory. But n/a's usually last pretty long, so if you keep up on maintenance, it should last at least a few more months of DD duty.

 

Hell, my '91 NA DD had 85-90 psi on both rotors when I bought it over two years ago and still runs fine.
Never once flooded or refused to start and for some reason the mileage is actually getting better (yeah, I keep track of every fill up).

Over the past year I've been slowly acquiring parts to deal with the inevitable, so when the motor dies I should be ready.

 

a couple of months should be fine if you keep the maintainance up. mine was at around 80-85 psi 3months before it blew, just granny the car you should be fine. 2stroke should keep it a little longer i think

 

I believe my 200k-mile sport had 90 or 85 psi last time I comp-tested it, and it still starts up in only a couple seconds and still managed to do a giant smokey 1-wheel-peel all the way down my street

 

mine has 197,000 and runs fine.. back fires like hell tho.
never done a compression test tho.

 

I have 251k on my original seals (N/A). Never done a comp test, but feels like it's OK. It is starting to flood once in a while, but I'm wondering if I just have some injector dripping going on.

 

this is one of those things, where if you're ready to rebuild it, or have a new engine to put in, the old one will never die.

 

my old N/A had well over 220k when i rebuilt it..... It turned out it didn't need rebuilt either. I wouldn't worry too much, NA = Nearly Bulletproof.

 

So, I have a while until it needs to be taken apart(hopefully). Because I finally get to fix the dents on my car and give it a professional paint job, and all I think in my mind is that when i need to move it, it'll pop. But now I'm not going to worry too much! I hope this would help someone else...
