Engine struggles reving with anything past 3k rpm
My 1990 vert rx7 non turbo is having trouble changing gears and is also having trouble going past about 2.5k rpms mostly 3k rpms. i drive it a lot and it’s always had this problem i just want to fix it because it’s really annoying when it won’t get into the next gear, it is sadly an automatic. i just don’t know what the problem might be with. it’s not overheating, it has enough fluids. it just hates going past 2.5k and then once i get it up there if it doesn’t kick into the next gear it revs up to about 3.5k rpms. i haven’t ever gotten it past 3.3k rpms without it acting out. please let me know what might be the problem.

it could be a lot of things.
step one is to check the computer for error codes, there is a little 1 pin green connector under hood and if you ground this pin, and turn the key to the on position the check engine light will blink error codes if any.
the next things are maintenance items, like the fuel filter, air filter, if they aren't recent they can be plugged.
if still nothing has been found the next step is probably to look for exhaust restrictions
