Hello all,
Been away for nearly a month.
Race season is winding down, so back to buss. and projects.
Last items left to cover: CLUTCH OPTIONS, & PRICING.
As to CLUTCH options :
Any one looking at either full Carbon/ Carbon, or
any 5.5" or 7.25" inch Race Clutch in Sintered Iron or Cerametalic lining,
can purchase the following Flywheels from Mazda Speed Motorsports:
P/n : 0000-02-9207. Aluminum Full Race flywheel for 5.5" inch multy disc Clutch.
P/n : 0000-02-9204. Aluminum Race/Sport flywheel for 7.25" inch multy disc Clutch.
These Flywheels will accept any: Tilton, Ace, or Quarter Master(QM), Dual, Triple, or Quad Disc setups.
The -9204 will also accept Clutch Master's 7.25 Dual, and Ram's also.
These Mazda Flywheels are manufactured by "FIDENZA" , and were designed by "Iannetti".
The Flywheel illustrated in the pictures of the Kit are made by Billington Manufacturing in Modesto California.
Designed and raced by the late Chuck Billington.
It is my faborite of all the 5.5's as it offfers the lowest "Monent of Innersia" of all flywheels ever, and is available directly from Billington or through us at CLR.
On the more "Streetable" side, besides a full Carbon Clutch, Both Tilton and Quarter Master (QM), offer an 8.5" inch Dual Disc Clutch that is both streetable and affortable.
Colaborating w/ QM, I have designed a Steel Flywheel for the 8.5 "Rally"
Dual Disc Clutch package.
This Larger Diameter Clutch Disc, offers great modulation, smooth engagement, long life, and serviceability of individual and separete parts.
This Flywheel will be offers in both a very "Light Weight Steel" version, about 5.2 pound,+ the weight of the Clutch, and also :
A "Heavy" version, about 24 pounds + the Clutch for the Drag Racers.
Either version will be machined to accept both the 8.5 Rally, or the 7.25 Race/ sport Clutch.
Last and NOT YET confirmed:,we are currently working on a modified version of this "Rally" 8.5" Clutch Cover that may very well accept Sprung Hubs as an upgrade street option.
Prices to follow.

That's a lot more money that what a Dodge dealer quoted me for a new TR6060 Viper 6 speed gearbox. I still don't see why people are shying away form using a modern T-56 or TR6060 instead of a Supra box.

I can the 160's for $4200 new.
The gear ratios suck, among other things, at least with the T-56. Not sure about a TR6060 though.

Dave, NO ONE inside the US (and *almost* no one outside of the US) can get V161s new - save for me
I can pretty much guarantee that.
That, and it shifts like crap at high rpm, and has very limited options for shifter positioning.

2. There are lots of options for shifter position. You can even use a tri-pod style tail like what the Supra box has.
3. Another forum member is using a modern T-56 with his 20b and said it shifts fine at high rpm. Have you driven a C6 or C6 Z06 Corvette? I thought the transmission felt much better than the stock FD box and it shifted fine above 6,000.
I have not had a chance to try the new TR6060. It is supposed to be the biggest redesign yet and more or less has completely new internals. Among other things, it is supposed to shift smoother at high rpm. They have been building T-56 gearboxes for the better part of 10 years, and there have been a lot of improvements over that time, so you have to be careful when making generalizations about them.

Not saying it's bad/won't work, but why take chances when you have a sure-fire deal?

1. There are a few different TR6060 options that have suitable gear ratios and won't require a new differential as the Supra box does. I have never been crazy about the gearing of the Supra box.
2. The CTS-V box uses a floating tail and has triple/double syncros. There are a few stationary tail sections that are better options though.
3. Last time I checked that 'gazillion dollar' Viper transmission was cheaper NEW than the going rate for the USED Supra gearbox you're guiding everyone on the forum to buy.
4. We don't have a definite answer on how long it will last, but based on the 5 or so transmission shops I have spoken to in detail about this, it should be more than durable enough as long as you get one with double/triple syncros. What is their basis? -drag racing, OEM cars that use the same gearbox and redline above 7000, and the handful of rotaries that are using it.
What makes you so sure the FOURTEEN YEAR OLD USED Supra gearbox will outlast the TR6060 on a high rpm rotary? The Supra TT had a redline of 6,800 rpms.

FOURTEEN YEARS WORTH of data to support it in fact
