Talking GB: 100% BRAND NEW JDM (V161) Supra Getrag Trannies!

This GB (which I anticipate to be small) is for 100% BRAND SPANKIN NEW JDM (V161) Supra Getrag Trannies, coming straight from Japan. I can get 'em for $6,000 a pop SHIPPED, provided I get 2 - 3 orders in (and obviously a larger discount if I can get a few more orders). The V161s are VERY hard to get used, and near impossible to find new. But hey, this is what I do best These units will only be available for a short time, so jump in while you can, because I'll be placing the order VERY soon (before the end of the month).

Thanks!

Damn, I want one of these but I might not be able to jump in on it this month. The holidays are gonna kill my wallet. I'm probably not the only one either.

How many are needed for further price breaks and what would the price structure look like?

Any chance of keeping the GB open till the end of January?

Whats the point of this for the 6 spd? Direct bolton or does it require adapters?

This is for people who want a near bullet proof transmission that will be able to hold gobs of power without leaving bits and pieces of itself behind you when you take off.

I think there is going to be a separate GB for the adapters and clutch setups..

wtfx100, as Juiceh mentioned, there are many pros to this. And this thread is NOT meant for discussion (sorry sub9lulu). But this topic has been discussed to death on several threads. For all those who'd like to do more reading or ask questions about the setup, please refer to this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/20b-forum-95/tranny-618433/.

And yes, as Juiceh mentioned, a separate GB will be setup shortly for the full bolt-on adapter kit.

As for price break, there really isn't much of one. At most, we'd be looking at $250 or so off the price if I got a good number of ppl in (5 or more). And that's assuming the exchange rate holds still (these are obviously available directly from Japan ONLY). If the exchange rate changes, the price will change accordingly.

Re: time...tough to say. I suppose anything's possible, but honestly I would not be inclined to wait that long (2 months) unless I had 2 - 3 ppl w/ a substantial deposit in place to ensure follow-through (say $500 or so), because these are made in a limited quantity, and as such, time is of the essence. Plus, I've noticed that the price has been increasing steadily over the past few months to reflect this.

I'm sorry if it's been spelled out elsewhere, but what are the advantages to the V161 over the V160?

Did a little digging. . . sorry for the initial laziness.

This seems to be the only comparison I can find. Any added strength or weight savings that would make the V161 more desirable?

Gear ratios only. If there's a good amount of interest in the V160s (USDM), I can prob do those in the GB as well. They're a bit cheaper. But for me, it's all in the gear ratios.

I'm sure you could drum up some more people if you had some pricing, at least ballpark, for the V160s. . . maybe even more than for the V161s. I for one am interested in both, but will likely be limited to the V160 by the wallet.

Yea I KNOW there is interest over there, but you gotta be VERY careful w/ your posts on Supraforums. They don't like any competitor vendor posting from what I hear. I'll see if I can give it a shot though...

Well we're gonna be running a GB for all the parts necessary, even if the GBs are run separately.

HEY ROBERT!!!

Long time man...how goes it? I hope all's well with you? Man...haven't talked to you in AGES. Glad to see you're still around Drop me an email man. I'd love to hear the scoop on your project. I'm actually just about to start on mine

Robert, I'd honestly be lying if I said I could. These trannies were available new years ago when the Supra was still in production. Then they were discontinued (to the public); the only way you could get your hands on one would be from either a junked JDM Supra, or from TRD off of one of their race cars (they would swap out trannies after every race or so). So TRD was the only entity that could get 'em new, and they were selling 'em only after using 'em.

Just recently, apparently TRD needs a bunch more, and I'm able to finagle a few new ones at the same time. So how long will this last? I honestly couldn't tell ya. That's one of the reasons for my urgency in getting this GB done ASAP, cuz I have no idea how long this window of opportunity's gonna last, and frankly speaking, I wanna make sure I get mine before it's too late lol.

My advice to you (and anyone else who's serious about getting this tranny) is to get it while it's available. No marketing schemes, no sales hype. I simply can't guarantee they'll be available later. I can't tell ya how long I've been trying to get 'em new as it is...so this is a gold mine IMO. So get 'em while the gettin's good, ya know?

Its finally on a boat and detuned to these

2000 401 153
2500 401 191
3000 440 251
3500 479 319
4000 468 356
4500 468 401
5000 485 461
5500 479 502
6000 473 541
6500 473 586
7000 473 631

Robert
DEAR GOD! Got 'nuff power there?!?! LOL. With that kind of power, I really hope you have a) a really wide wheel/tire setup, and b) RaceLogic traction control to help things out... (we actually just ran a GB on these RL TC units here: https://www.rx7club.com/fdnewbie-imports-172/gb-racelogic-674843/. Not sure if you caught it. If you're interested, drop me an email and I'll see what I can do for ya)

Update:

1) Posted up on the SupraForums

2) Here's a nice spreadsheet comparing the V160 (USDM) to the V161 (JDM), provided by our friends @ SupraForums http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/get...ratio_info.xls

I was wondering what kind of adapters are needed and such if buying this transmission. I'm planning on doing an auto-manual swap, and any info would be appreciated. Could lead me into buying one

Sorry to take the thread off topic slightly, but for those that want to buy the adapter kit mentioned in that thread, how would we go about it? I already have a used v160. I live in new zealand and have never imported an item valued over $500 before, so i'm not sure what's involved in obtaining this kit.

If we deal with you FDNewbie, i am happy to pay the inquiry fee i briefly read about in another thread.

Yea I linked the whole thread so ppl can see not just why the Getrag, but why NOT the others. That's the most important thing (unless you'd like to volunteer for the 1001 questions about that? LOL)

Don't worry about it; I'll be running the GB on the adapter kit, and I'll get ya taken care of re: shipping the adapter to ya. Not a problem. I have many customers from Down Under

Not necessary...that was a "feeler" thread, and I haven't implemented it a single time yet.

Thanks,
