question on 3 rotors

Ok I’m fairly new to this whole rotor thing newbie to say the least

But the short of it is that after reading a little more on the Peter Farrell thing I am a little nervous here.

I am looking to put a 3 rotor in my 1993 3rd gen and am wondering if anyone has had any experience with both the motor and any shops that are doing these conversions.

As I am Canadian sending my car to the states and paying for both shipping as well as the install becomes a very costly proposition what with exchange rate and all.

So any help from the members of this forum would be greatly appreciated.

By the way have looked at the 3rotor.com conversion and would like some input from anyone who has had the conversion done and what there experience has been.

First off: use the search button(it's located at the top right of the page) this topic comes up every few weeks.

Second: You're looking at a ridiculous amount of money. I believe the going rate is somewhere in the ball park of $35k

look at Pettit's website they do the conversions.

cost

ok i know the cost that is not a problem i am trying to find information is all

and have looked at pettiets site as well as any some others but not being in the states and while having the funds for the conversion to start going to each shop personally would increase it by a little to much never mind the time involved

so hence the question in this forum.

What more do you need to know besides...

what's involved in the conversion
what it costs
what shops can perform it

all three can be found using the search function...

Damn you guys are harsh. Try the 20B section, Let them know you are very serious about, and maybe they will be a little more friendly.

Not to get flamed by everyone else but... instead of trying to find someone that may/may not be able to do such a difficult conversion for a FD regardless of the cost...why don't you just do a V-8? Like an LT-1?

It will fit and the costs are approximately the same, at least for the motor mounts, exhaust, computer...but you don't have to deal with changing the transmission location as all you need is a bell-housing adaptor, etc. That and it seems like every moron seems to know how to work on a chevy 350 platform. Just a thought, but by all means, go ahead and pay for a shop to do it all for you. If you have that much $, we'd all like a donation so we can finish ours as well It's tax deductible!

You may want to spend some more time reading through more of the posts on this forum as the subject of shops has already been covered repeatedly.

but then after someone mentioned the $35k price tag on the engine you claim "the cost is not a problem"... so my question is, if youre not worried about spending $35k on an engine, then why the hell are you worried about another $2-3 for shipping and install?

try the 20b forum

I don't have a 3 rotor, but I've seen a few 3 rotor convertions from Pettit.

His work is flawless. He pays extreme attention to detail and nothing is ever missed. After his install, it literally looks as if the 20b came in the FD from the factory. He may be a bit pricey, but perfection doesn't come cheap. With a project this big, I'd rather have it done right the first time.

His installs are the CLEANEST installs I have ever seen in a car. EVERYTHING is clean with no oil or dirt residue anywhere at all. If you search around, you will also realize people never have any problems with Pettit, either.

You can check out Alamo Rotary / Pettit Racing.

They do it differently than PFS. Both shops are a almost a whole country away from you! (Very south of USA!).

If you have questions, send me a PM.

thank you Red-Rx7 that is the most help i have got in these forums

Ok i am going to have to word this better i see

What i am looking for is a little personal information on different shops to be specific Pettit racing in Florida, Rx7.com in texas and any one else that some one may have dealt with that is doing these conversions.

As i do not have the time to go to these shops in person at this time i am looking to get any input from people who have dealt with them and how they were treated as well as the workmanship.

Oh yah i have searched these forums but hey i see alot about how everyone seems to want to do this but not a lot on anyone that has done it and the experiance they had with the shop. ( Plus hey i have a buisness to run this thing isn't paying for it's self )

And yes i have researched them on the internet but hey would you send your car 3 or 4000 miles just because they had a cool site and said lots of great things about themselves.

I came to these forums becuse they seemed like a place where i might be able to get the answers i was looking for and maybe save my self some time and expence as this is already a costly venture in its self.

And no i am not donating to anyones projects i am here for info not charity.

if this offends some i am sorry but after the stupid comments that i have received already i figured i had best word it very carfully for some.

Please understand that the 20B conversion is extremely rare in the US. Not only is it very expensive and labor-intensive, but the 20B-REW was never exported to the US in a new vehicle. You are asking for information that only a handful of people in the US can help you with.

Attila the Fun had his car built by PFS. I'm sure that he would be glad to share any information with you.

I don't know of any other current members who have had a professional 20B conversion.

BTW, I merged your two threads into one, just in case you were wondering what happened.

Well, you can just buy a 3 rotor converted FD from these guys - Alamo Rotary

Alamo Rotary did this guy's 3 rotor conversion

You could ask him about his satisfaction with Alamo Rotary but from his website, he seems to be extremely satisfied.

I am partial to this 3 rotor from New Zealand rather than a 20B
