my 20bpp project
my 20bpp project
hey guys
Just thought i would share my project with you all, I have to say first that this project has been in the build for some time and really regret not taking photos alot earlier in the piece. Well as the subject says it is a 20b pp capella i live in brisbane and hope to have it going by late feb to early march time permitting. Lucky i have access to an awesome workshop here in brisbane to complete the build.
CAR
It is a 1973 mazda capella, i am very lucky to have bought a car that was and still is in awesome condition. I have had to do some mods to the tunnel and firewall this is so that i could get the 20b engine sitting as far back as practical.
ENGINE
-20b peripheral port
-Brand new 20b housings
-Xtreme rotaries PP kit
-Brand new RX8 rotors
-Xtreme coated crankshaft
-All machine work is being done by Rohan at Xtreme rotaries
-Engine will be assembled by GT AUTO GARAGE in Brisbane
-Motec ecu
DRIVETRAIN
-Supra 5 speed (W57)
-Custom 3inch tailshaft
-Hilux diff
-Car has been converted to 5 stud
-Series 5 front brakes
i have some photos here to give you all a better idea so hope you enjoy and i will try and update it as often as possible. Feel free to ask questions and criticize it all helps to better the build
cheers Dave

Hey guys thanks for all the support i have been hard at work and have finished my radiator oil cooler and thermo fan set up i made it so that i can put the whole thing in, in one hit. That is one thing i wanted on this project to make the car practical to work on. The oil cooler is just a bought 9 row PWR item where as the radiator i had to design myself. Oh i almost forgot the titanium radiator shroud keeps the weight down!!!
hope you like.
I will post up some pics of the brakes and the 5 stud conversion in the next couple of days!!!

Hey guys its been a while since i have updated the build but i have been waiting for my engine to come back from machining and what not. I am hopeing now for one more dummy fit then it is final assembly time anyway enough words here are some pics...
hear is the new manifold assembly and engine fitment pics

The crank Xtreme coated and balenced to suit the rx8 rotors

Rx8 rotors clearanced, grooves deepen and widened for 3mm Carbons

Water pump outlet

should have the engine back in the car this week will take some more shots then and post them up

hey guys just a quick update and some pics to go with it. I finished tidying up the engine bay and seam welding it and i am very happy with how it turned out. The paint came up a treat but i will let the p[hotos do the talking that way you can judge for yourself. The engine is all ported now and will probably be build by the end of next week so that start up video is getting closer and closer so stay turned

Awespme setup man..
I can't wait to hear it scream... be sure to take lots of vids!
with that crank and balancing.. What kind of redline and power output are you aiming for?
Australia is the Mecca of rotors..

i love it...
the extractors seem to be a little low where it crosses back under the uni-frame... is that a common way to run it on a righthand drive car??
more pics... do you have a power goal?
whats the water pump from?

The extractors do look low there and it is only because the engine is not in the car so it is all just hanging there. And no never seen anyone do an exhaust like this but i just didnt see any point in building a tough engine just to have it ruined by trying to squeeze them passed the steering box. Not sure on horsepower yet???
Oh and that is a Davies Craig electric water pump

I'm curious.....why RX-8 rotors in a PP. Its already been proven that they yeild no extra power and are more expensive once you factor in all the machining costs thats needed to make them work.
By Capella you mean 616 or RX-2 correct? Its an awesome car so far, keep up the good work!

Yeah i know and have heard all the comments/arguements about RX8 rotors but i am in the belief that it wont be long before the Series 8 is classed as an old school rotor the car is near 7 years old so how much longer will they produce parts for them. I guess what im trying to say is i just want to use and learn all the tricks to parts that i know will be around for years to come. And let me tell you there are definatly some tricks, i pity the guys that clearance side seals the old way on a RX8 rotor
