The above mentioned LT-1 coil-near-plug Denso transistorized coils require 5.8mSec of dwell to function properly. If you are using them on a leading plug and firing them every 180 as the factoy does on a TWO rotor, you will run out of time and go to 100% dwell (which melts down the coil) at 5172 RPM. In all actuality it will be a lower RPM than that as the coil should have some 'off' time and the battery voltage will be lower than ideal requiring a longer dwell time for the same energy to be delivered.
On a THREE rotor in which you will fire the coil every 360 you can have twice the RPM before the coil fails. It is also important to note that these coils do not tolerate extremely high cylinder pressures. I have seen them used quite sucessfully in piston engines producing less than 600 H.P., but once the boost goes up the coil needs a very narrow plug gap to operate in the peak torque range.

THanks Ted, Zach, Mike, Crispeed and inboost for the insight. Zach is correct... I believe that I will be going with the Tec3 6/12, though the E11 does sound quite nice. I do need a good ignition... the 5.8 dwell on the denso coils scarred me, but when you mentioned the firing ever 360 degrees, its a non issue... plus, I can get those babies for about 30 bucks a pop... So, $200 in coils, $1500 for an E11... or about $2k for a Tec3 6/12... what would you guys do?

see thats the thing, i have an e6k and it works pretty well, but i want it for something else and a better ecu for the 20b while i'm there. should i go with haltech again? or one of the other fish in the sea?
i think for me the 2 standouts are the e11 and the tec 3, i cant easily get suport for much else here. they ae about the same price too. (i think i could get a tec 3 cheaper after you buy coils for the e11), hmmmm

No big deal. I don't like how the E6K performed. I don't like the US office of Haltech and I'd rather not go with another Haltech... but I'm not dumb enough to rule out a great ECU over a silly grudge, thats all
So, TEC3 or E11?????

I know how you feel!
A couple of months ago I was very close to flying out to Texas to kick someone's butt! My ecu was sitting there for three months waiting for a simple firmware and software change that took 15 mins to do and was promised it would only take one day to do the job. That's why on my buddy's 20B Pro FD we won't be running Haltech. The customer support we received especially after beaing a dealer for over 10 years was not deserved.
The sad part about the whole matter is that they do have a very good product for the price.
Your decision on Ecu should be based on which one you're more comfortable with, ie. tuning set-up etc. and would receive support for. Both produtcs are good with each one having some advantages over the other. In my opinion the E-11 got more features than the Tec but it's too early to be a judge of that. The Tec on the other hand has been used and proven to work on the 20B with good success.
If you have the time I would wait and see what's the deal with the E-11. The decision is in your hands though!
btw. Haltech is for sale and that was quoted from the source.

Hmmmm, I'm trying to think of Bazillionaire rotorheads and I can't think of anyone to buy Haltech for us so we can make them better
Too bad Napster failed or else we could make Mr. Fanning buy it
What about that dude that invented Gnutella... isn't he a rotorhead?
