has anyone here broken the rear differential?

Just out of curiosity, has ANYONE with 20b broken the stock rear differential? I've broken 1 axle and 3 transmissions but never the diff. I'm in early stages of planning transmission swap and am curious whether I should do 8.8 conversion while I'm at it. thanks!

Not sure if this helps....I run the Kaaz 1.5 Super Q on both the 13B and 20B. I did break the gears in the torsen diff on the 13B car at a time trial, so I did not wait long to swap the torsen out of the 20B car. I have never broken a ring and pinion. The Kaaz's have been trouble free thus far.

any data point is helpful. By torsen diff, do you mean the stock mazda diff? so you broke the gear inside of the diff... was this FD differential?

Way too vague a question... I've broken open diffs with a stock 12A, I've broken limited slips with a N/A 13B (granted it was collateral damage, but it happened)

Put some big bling-o-matic 20" wheels and rubberband tires on the car, you'll never make enough traction to break anything You'll look dumb as hell, but you won't break anything.

referring anyone.. including people launching with slicks with 500+ft-lb.. I have never heard of the stock FD differential breaking. I heard people breaking axles (specifically the output shaft) and transmissions but never FD diff until you mentioned it.

Yes, torsion gears broke off an OEM FD3S torsen diff.

I've seen pictures of the reared housing split in two. Not the differential, the iron housing broke, front half broke clear of the rear half and was just hanging there by the PPF.

I broke a stock torsion diff on slicks on my 500whp 13b years ago. I swapped for a t2 clutch style diff and have never had any issues since.

I have customers with as little as 300rwhp on stock twins that have absolutely destroy the torsen. The spider gears are the weak point, they crack in half which then takes out the rest of the LSD unit. I install the ATS Carbon or super silent metal depending on the driving application. The ATS LSD units have none of the popping during slow cornering that is associated with other LSDs. http://www.banzai-racing.com/store/9...ferential.html
