Engine rebuild kits

Over the winter I plan to pull my engine out and give it a rebuild. I would lime to know what kits you guys would recommend for 20b. Do you use all Mazda stuff? I think I read Banzai for one do some water seals.. What about rotor tips and side seals etc. Do you guys Buy parts in from Atkins rotary in Aus or are there some suppliers with good prices right there in the US?
Would really.live some recommendations and also the minimum parts I should be looming to refresh if everything looks good inside?
All gaskets and seals is a given,
Tips, side seals and related springs? Maybe not springs?
Any other parts?

Thank you
Lee

Atkins is actually a US company and make good stuff at reasonable prices.
Mazda is always a safe bet on quality/reliability for a little more money.
Talking apex seals is like talking religion everyone has their own beliefs. I dont think anyone believes in steel science tho
Personally i would reuse side seals if they are within spec.

Strange.. I swore Atkins was Aus.. Maybe I got mixed up with somewhere else. So side seals maybe I can leave out? I found some other tips that claim to be unbreakable! Will post a link later. Have a feeling they may be a US product too. The water seals was one thing I see there are a few options on an interested in feedback. Of course the Mazda parts were made many moons ago and since then various materials have come on including rubber! I would think that is one thing that may benefit from being aftermarket. Gaskets and other small orings I guess just stick to Mazda unless they are plain orings easy to source. I think maybe the main bolts have plain orings on them? I have a local oring supplier which can get almost anything and another that makes seals in house in fact!

Anyway interested in more feedback from others.
Thanks for input.

Oh here are those apex seals

Just make sure you are fully aware of the difference between unbreakable and unserviceable with regards to apex seals. Another consideration is wear characteristics...don't want to be stripping the chrome off your housings in 5000km's.
Atkins have a pretty good name and so do goopy.

Hi HSMIDY can you elaborate on that? Are you implying to steer clear of Apex seals like that and go with a more known quantity with usual wear characteristics?

Thank you

Unbreakable seals may not shatter and get feed through your engine but they will still bend and can cause damage.
There have been cases of New aftermarket seals that don't have the same/similar wear characteristics as Mazda.

My advice would be that if you are going aftermarket seals go with seals that have been around for some time with a good history.

You should break the engine down THEN order what you need.

^ agreed but things like O-rings and gaskets you will have to replace - everything else I would wait until you have the engine down.

The engine is a bit down on compression around 90psi so I am guessing apex seals will be needed would like to change for piece of mind. Gaskets and seals of course. Are springs needed if apex seals are changed?
The reason I am trying to order in the must haves before I break the engine down is I currently have family time n the US who could bring this home for me and save me on some shipping. If I need other bits I can get them later. Help spread the cost out too. Method in the madness!

Not sure I do actually!?
Not much use though!

So onto serious things. This is the list I have compiled for must have parts talking to my tuner friend here:

Apex Seal
Apex Springs
Corner Seals
Corner Springs
Side Seal springs but not side seals
Gasket set
Water Seal Kit
Front and Rear Main Oil Seal
Front Cover Gasket
I have added FD exhaust Gaskets too

Any thing else I might have missed or is not already included in the above gasket kits?

So do I just go and get it all from Atkins or is there worth in getting Goopy Apex Seals and Banzai (or other) water seals? Just want a good solid recommendation on these two main items.

Any other sellers there or abroad that are worth getting a price from?

Thanks Guys.

Thanks for letting me know! I thought I read somewhere you did water seals?
Who is your preferred supplier out of interest?

Cheers

At 90 PSI the engine could run for another 10 years.

But if you want to rebuild it, then I typically use Atkins kits. Seal choice depends on the build. Generally always used Atkins apex seals with Mazda FD corner seals (I don't like the solid ones, don't seal as well down low) and been happy. Last engine I built I tried the RA Super Seals. No opinion on them yet other than they take a lot longer to break in.

i usually buy the 180 dollar rotary aviation kit, has oil control rings, new seals for tension bolts/dowels, other washers o rings and seals.
then i buy OEM apsex seals. about to try some rx7parts apex seals in a turbo engine that will see 400hp.

Thanks for replies.. My Atkins kit is on the way.. I got the solid seals though as I saw this too late. Could always get some standard seals here.
i was told 90psi was a bit on the low side? anyway as the engine is an unknown really other than it appears to run okay I wanted to pull it apart and freshen the water seals and things before I give it death. Better safe than sorry!

Cheers
