Dowel pins

I have a question about the dowel pins in the 20b
they look to be the same as the 13b pins.
they are the same length and di. except for the 2 pins in
the front rotor housing, these ones have a step on them
where they go into the wide housing at the front.
the di. steps down 6/1000 of a inch.
check out the pics.

forgot to say, the normal pins will go into the holes
where the ones with the step were in..
just wondering if I shouldn't use normal pins in these
holes, you wouldn't think that loose pins would be good,
but mazda must have used them for a reason.

Weird...
Looks like Mazda wanted the extra strength.
0.006" is super tiny - it might be just to show which side is "front"?

well talked to a mazda tech on the phone today and was told
that the front dowel pins are different for a reason
and that regular pins should not be used in their place.
there was no explanation for the difference (didn't know)
just to use the ones that mazda put there.
they show up in the parts book as different part number
from the rest in the motor, so its not just my motor that
has them.

Hey I don't know if you figured this out already but the step down portion of the pin goees into the front rotor side of the large side housing. If you need a better explination I can give you one. Anyway, I measured the distance the down pin goes in the holes and the tapered side goes in about 1.5-2mm more than non tappered side. So those must go there or the housings wont go together right. Hope this helps.

All I know is the step pins definately go in further in that specified location. Also, We called several different places and they also told us to use them in that spot.

I know that in the later motors c's and d's the front pins are the same as the rest, not sure why the change but
mazda stoped using them.
