Wow, that's very beautiful. Simple, elegant. I couldn't do that on mine since the trans was kept in the stock location. Hopefully yours will be strong enough to handle the weight and torque.

Thanks guys The torque is my only concern Jeff, I will modify the powerside engine mount which will hopfully stop any mount breakages...

I was pumped to get the crossmember sandblasted and powdercoated today. Came up a treat

My mate was over and talked me into to dropping the engine back in the car...

The crossmember and engine in the car, looks almost OEM!

That crossmember is really good looking. And the engine is very OEM looking and clean. Great job!

Starting to run out of room now... Made up some stainless steel mounting brackets for the radiator. Sits nice and solid.
It clears all round, though the fan is quite close to the w/p. I'm going to run a piece of s/s plate across the top from bracket to bracket, this will give the whole radiator support more bracing and finish it neatly.
I still have room under the bracket on both sides to run the i/c piping too, which is a plus.

How tall is your radiator and what size is your fan?

The radiator is a PWR s3 repacement 400x550x55.

The fan is a Spal 3000cfm (pull type)

The whole radiator/fan combination was quite a fit, not much room. Things might of been different if I reached for the angle grinder...

Thanks! You got the 16" version. I also have a 16" electric fan and an S3 radiator. If I can get them to fit further forward I'll be in business! Might not have room for an intercooler though. hmm...

Jeff, You'll have room mate
This is how I set my IC/ oil cooler up with my 13b and never had one issue. The oil cooler as set up below is very similar to one mounting method mazda recommends in their first gen competition manual.
I'll still be running the IC in this location but will have to relocate the oil cooler due to the new radiator set up.

The top of the IC sits up within the bumper, while the bottom sits just above the bottom apron (You'll have to loose the black plastic louvre)

That looks complicated. Maybe I've got too much on my plate. Trying to fit it all in before the weather turns cold.

Had a few issues with my internet so no updates..back online now.

Anyway have made some progress with the exhaust manifold. As im on a budget im using a t4 split pulse flange. This presented a problem of splitting the three runners into two. The best way I thought was to split the middle runner as re-amemiya have done with many of their 20b manifolds.

Tacking together the runners.

Working out the last runner..

I recently ordered an Xtreme fuel rail kit. Finally something off the shelf for a 20b...Could have made the rails, but this kit is very good.

This arrived during the week.

Just need the injectors now, thinking of x6 id 1000's to start with...

Spent some time removing the old ecu and loom, it's headed along with the old 13bt (which is getting rebuilt atm) into a meth drinking s1 rx7 drag car...

Also had a play with the throttle body. Removed the dual butterflies and a few other bits that wont be needed.

Before.

After.

Started making up the sump too. Thought about cut and shutting the OEM sump which would have ment cutting out /welding a new pice in around the timing cover area and quite a bit of work to enlarging the rear pan.

Decided on going the alloy route, which will give me a chance to increase the capacity and help brace the block a bit.

It's a start...

Wow I'm so in awe living I South Africa we just don't have access to motors like this and it's painstaking to get stuff done as local components are usually Chinese imitation crap. Can you run your car on the street legally

okay gotcha. I've been thinking about starting up a project on my 79 rx7. I want to replace the 12a with a 20b but i haven't found much on anyone who has done this so i'm curious if there is a reason why?

Maybe a dumb question--is such an engine swap (i.e., 20B replacing a 12A or 13B) street-legal? That is, can it be registered and insured etc.?

You can swap anything into anything if you want, as long as you can pass your local emission laws, I dont see a problem. Also, just don't tell your insurance agent youve dumped a turbo 2-liter 3-rotor into an na 1.2-liter 2-rotor!

Unless you want them to actually pay you what the car is worth when you break the tires loose at 80 mph and slam it into a wall.

In Soth Africa you would need a police clearance and a fresh roadworthy cerificate emission control never heard of that no really we dont have such issues were intent on frying the plannet. Half the service places Ive seen pour their used oil down the drains. WELCOME TO AFRICA

That turbo is epic. That is the motor/turbo combo that I am thinking for when I finally build a widebody FB. Let us know how it comes out (and post videos of the monster). Are the 1000cc injectors your primaries?
