I think the only way to get a shortblock from anyone is to buy a longblock

You can buy the required parts to build a short block from Mazda, Mazdatrix, and Racing Beat, but it will cost you more than a used long block. It is very rare to see a blown 20B for sale because at that point the eccentric shaft and thick housing are worth more than the engine, so the seller usually sells the parts separately.

The 20B engine is for those who are highly skilled and very well funded. If you can't even afford a used long block, and/or you do not have the skill to disassemble a long block, then you are in way over your head.

Yes, that is the average price for a used long block with auto transmission and 30-day warranty. I have seen some really nasty long blocks for $2,000, and the better examples sell for about $4,500-5,500. Considering that most of the serious 20B cars on this forum have about $35,000-$50,000 worth of modifications, the engine itself is actually not such a big expense. It's all the supporting mods that kill you financially.

I was quoted $4500 for a 20B out of a 90-95 cosmo with the 5speed tranny off a 13BTT installed onto the 20B. Engine comes with turbos, sensors, ac, ps, uncut wiring harness and factory ECU, this was shipped anywhere I wanted but I later found out the importer was a couple blocks from my house...SCORE!

So is it using the stock AT flexplate, or does it have a properly balanced aftermarket flywheel?

Somebody hasn't researched the 20B swap very well.

Lots of dreamers here..

If they cant come up with $4500.00 for one of my longblocks how in the hell will they come up with 11,000.00 for your built motor? Thats more than most of them make in a year...

Whatever you think it's going to cost for the swap, just go ahead and at least double it.
