20b Into a FD

I have a 1992 fd and i'm interested in any information that anyone has about the conversion. I'm starting the conversion in October. Cost is not an issue. Any specifics from personal experience would be appreciated. Thanks

Do a search and look at the 20B forum. I think you 'll find what you are looking for...

Cost is alway a problem ahhaha..
but since you are in japan..you can try one of the many tuners that do has done 20B conversions ..like re amemiya..

RE Amemiya has a racing 20B in the JGTC300 so they would be experienced in putting it in.

Or C Y sports ... they do some wild conversions too .

The problems with a 20B into a fd are, the mounting points(ie, sub frame) , the bumpsteering , also the transmission tunnell needs to hammered out . the gear shifter will be also moved back about 6 inchs ...etc

go the the https://www.rx7club.com/forum/forumd...?s=&forumid=95
many are running a 20b but mostly in the FC ...

You are in Okinawa and you want to put a 20b in an FD? You want to pay someone to do it? Good f@cking luck!!!! There isn't a Japanese shop in Okinawa that has the knowledge to pull it off right. Yeah, they'll take your money and then shove your car in the back of their shop until you forget about it. If you want it done, you need to talk to Dragon. His name is Chris and he drives a yellow FD, I drive a black FD and we share a shop with a couple of other guys down in the Sunabe area, out gate 1 KAB. All of the fastest RX7's in Okinawa are out of our shop and the shop next door. If you've seen the white 20b FC, or the blue bridgeported FC they are out of the shop next door.

How did you deal with the extra inchs of the 20B in the front ? Did you have to move alot of things?

Dragon is actually in the process of doing his 20b into FD project. Sorry, no websites, and I haven't converted my car, I just tuned an FC that has been converted. I'm just working on a twin TO4S setup. By the way, FC's are waaaaayyyyyyy easier to convert.

If he ever gets his damn 20b out of the race car I will finish building the down pipes and wastegate piping, F@cker.

Keeping the tranny in the stock location is part of what creates the bumpsteer problem in the FD, because it forces the steering rack out of it stock location. You have to modify the spindles to realign the steering rack, once that's done no more bumpsteer.

ok and who sells modified spindles and for how much, if it's available somewhere?

also, does the modified pettit subframe leave the tranny at the same place, meaning you don't need to mess with the PPF and the driving shaft?

You can get the subframe and spindles from Pettit for about $2200 with a core exchange

With a 20B in a 3rd Gen a stock sway bar will not work, but again Pettit does sell a custom one to work with the 20B.
