20B A/C Pulley

I haven't had air conditioning for about 5 years in the RXX-7. I'm getting that fixed now. The mechanic says he needs a double pulley (in front of the single pulley that is closest to the block) for the A/C belt. See attached picture. Would that be a 20B-specific part, or would a pulley from a 2nd or 3rd gen work?

the JC cosmo used a big surpentine style belt for the alt (it looks like a supercharger belt) a smaller serpentine style belt for the air pump, and a v belt for the ac and v belt for the PS.

it kind of looks like you've got stock FC pulleys?

With a custom modified ac bracket you can use a fd set up,which will allow a ribbed belt set up instead of the v belts.

Wouldn't it be simpler/easier/cheaper to just use a FC compressor & accessory bracket? Sure, extending the suction hose by ~6" might not 'mesh' too well with your build, but it would probably be easier than trying to adapt the Cosmo's plumbing to the FC in some manner. Of course, there's bound to be some hidden difficulties with the fittings at each junction due to the often-misdocumented nature. Read 5 threads about it and you get 5 different answers on their thread standard. So far, I've seen Metric, SAE, NPT, AN & UNC, so it's anyone's guess what they really are...

If you do go this route, please keep us posted on your compressor choice, where your hoses were made/modified, refrigerant choice/amount and so on. Would definitely be worth a sticky!

Im 13b but the sane applies here

I cut the stock fd fittings off the ac lines and welded an fittings to it so i could use custom lines.

Using an fc set up would be easiest

Thanks to all who replied. I'm a little confused about what happened here. I had A/C from 2000 - 2008. The guy who rebuilt the motor in 2008 didn't do A/C, though he said he put all the parts back. I don't have a real rotary mechanic close to where I live now, but I thought the guy who does all my non-rotary work could just flush the system and charge it.

Silly me.

What I have now is, I think, pretty much what Akagis_white_comet suggested. I'm not sure why the compressor pulley doesn't line up with one of the pulleys on the e-shaft now and did before the rebuild. This is the downside of not doing all the work yourself or having only one person do all the work.

I'm going to try to contact Mitch Piper, who did most of the original installation work, and see what he remembers.

Answering the question ( didnt realize everything else was there )
I believe any s4, s5, or 13bre pulley should work

What computer you have in there?

Thanks. That's an answer I can live with. The engine is controlled by an Electromotive Tec3r. Since the pulley closest to the block has the crank sensor for the Tec3r on it, I don't want to touch it, at all.

You will have to jump the power out for the ac, it went THROUGH the factory ecu. If the factory ecu is gone it wont switch.

I guess you have the 20b compressor? Lines are hooked up?

From another thread when i was trying to get my ac working:

I also soldered and electrical taped my connections. Now you can have a standalone with AC.

No, it doesn't switch. If i want to rev to 8000 rpm, I have to turn the A/C off manually. Not usually a problem.

I have the stock, 2nd gen convertible A/C system. At this point, everything is hooked up--just not lined up. According to Kevin at Rotary Resurrection, there is another pulley that should go between the one closest to the block and the outermost one.

Thanks for the info.

The different compressors mount different depths, hopefully that pulley is what you need

The good news: I went back to Kevin at Rotary Resurrection. He identified a missing pulley and sold me a replacement for $20.

The bad news: In addition to the pulley that was missing, a number of other things had not been put back correctly and/or were missing. The current mechanic had a machine shop make a shim to get the compressor lined up with the new pulley. The car has now been in the shop for 7 weeks and >may< be done next week.

I can look forward to the 2014 A/C season.

let me know how it works out, not sure if it was a charging pressure issue or a wiring issue but mine never worked properly and I gave up on it
you seem to have more of a chance for success because the system is original to the vehicle

That's why I take mine to a mechanic. If something doesn't work, I can legitimately yell at him, instead having to yell at myself.
