20B with 13B front cover?

I've seen the recent thread on the 13B waterpump efficiency with a 20B block. What I'm wondering, is can the waterpump and front cover be mounted to the 20B front iron directly? My initial visual tells me it may not. I want to keep my FD auxillaries on (ie PS and AC) with the 13B mounting bracket which is why I'd like to keep the 13B front cover on. I'm getting the feeling I'll have to use the FD front iron mated to the 20B front housing in order to use the FD waterpump, front cover, and accessories. Any input would be appreciated.

Almost forgot, the oil pans on the 20B and 13B are different not only in length (obviously), but also that the 20B pan is flat across its front whereas the 13B has an offset front, so I'm assuming that even if I can get the 13B waterpump and front housing to mate to the 20B, I'll still have to mod the oil pan. Anyway, food for thought.

You don't have to use the 13b front cover to use the 13b accessories on your 20b, all you have to do is rearrange the mounting bolts to match the 13b's.

I see where I could drill a new hole in the accessory bracket to fit the top bolt on the 20B front. I guess that could work. I like the look of the 13B pump set up, but sticking with the 20B front would at least let me stay with the 20B oil pan without a bunch of additional work. Do you think drilling a hole in the accessory bracket for the top bolt will risk any torque failure breaking on the part?

Drilling? Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are asking, I did not have to drill anything the swap my 13b accessories over to my 20b. I'm using the water pump, alternator, power steering and if I still had my A/C, that all without drilling.

There is a right angle bracket with a slave pulley on it and this is what the PS and AC is connected to on my 95 FD. This whole setup is then attached to the front iron on the car. I have taken the PS and AC of the bracket for now as I size everything up. That bracket does not line up exactly with the 20B front iron. The bottom hole of the bracket will fit on the lower 20B iron bolt, but the upper 20B iron bolt doesn't line up with the next bracket hole. This is the one I was assuming I'd have to drill. Does this sound anything like your setup?

Hey Butler, I want to keep the PS and AC on my FC as well. Post a writeup of what you do to get this to work. Thanks.

I know the bracket if I remember correctly it should bolt up, are you trying to use the 13b bracket or the 20b bracket? I don't remember if I used all the holes or not but I did not drill anything, I just bolt'd everything up. I do think I had to replace some of the bolts for the water pump with the bolts from the 13b because the 20b bolts were not long enough for the 13b pump.

The PS / AC bracket bolts line up except 1 which you can drill in if you want.. You need to use the FD studs for the waterpump.

BTW: Where in MN are you?

Oh, hes talking about 13b waterpump and thermostat housing? The title said front cover, I translate that into the front cover of the 13b mounting onto a 20b motor. I would like to attemp this, to get away from using the FC CAS and using the FD pickups

How do the two front covers differ in the way that they mate up to the oil pan? One person told me the bolt holes are different and that's it. I heard from another that the shape is also different. For those of you that are using an external CAS setup with the 20b front cover please explain how the CAS is mounted.

You do know that the 20B has tension bolts that go through the front iron, right?
Wow, that would make for a bitch to machine the FD front iron!

I think you can just drill the FD 13B-REW aux bracket to fit on the 20B.
The FD water pump fits no problem, but you need to swap out for the FD 13B-REW longer water pump studs.
You lose a lot of front clearance, as the FD 13B-REW water pump sticks out a lot more.

You're exactly right on drilling the 13B accessory bracket to fit the 20B front iron. We did this on my project and have been able to retain the stock PS and AC setup. The 13B waterpump has mounted up to the front iron perfectly while leaving the 20B stock front cover and CAS in place to allow the oil pan to match up. We capped off the CAS and are using an external CAS with the TEC3R standalone. The car is alive and breathing, and I'm waiting until March to pull her out and do the tuning. I can't wait for winter to go away!!!!!!!!!

Aaron:

Do you have a picture of the Tec timing wheel sensor mounting bracket installed on the front cover?
