ZERO compression in #2

About a year ago I was driving short distance on cold start (80 F. ambient temp. [Florida]) motor. I over revved the 12A & it went down to one rotor. (1982 GLS - 12A carbed stock)
I limped it home & pulled the plugs for a compression test & low & behold - absolutely nothing out of #2.
My guesstimate was blown APEX seals.
Has any one ever had this problem on their 12A motor?
I started to tear it down but ran out of time & picked up a MIATA.
The car has been sitting for a year now & I need to do something with it.
(1) Where can I purchase a rebuild kit for it?
(2) Would it be easier to pick up a used motor & slap it in?
(3) Anywhere in Florida that I can pick up a rebuilt?
(4) should I just junk the car? When it was running it was only worth about $2500 in my mind

A rebuilt motor seems to run about $1800 smackers, so I question the thought of throwing a rebuild into a car that may not be worth it.

Thank You for your replies!

1) Mazdatrix, RB, and a bunch of others
2) How far on teardown are you now
3) Check the internet or yellow pages or do you want a rebuild
4) Could part it out, unless it’s in super excellent cond and modded allot I don’t think you’ll get that much.

Only worth it in your mind and if you want to keep it for a while, not a wise investment strategy if you want to turn a buck... Good luck, were with you either way...

If you want to install a low mileage used moter check www.asapmotors.com. The have 12a motors for around $795 most have around 60k miles on them.

of course you will have to pay freight from Houston, Tx.
I haven't bought anything from them but from my communications with them the seem to be good people.

I didn't buy the engine from them because I decided to explore my options with a streetport rebuild first.

Ive heard nothing but baaaaaaad stories about low mile jap imports. Think about it. They stopped making 12a's in 85. I lived in Japan for 6 years, the traffic is horrible so that 60k is mostly idle and stop and go (the worst thing ever for a rotary). I think in the long run, rebuild it yourself or get a rebuild.

Welcome to the board. You can find used engines from time to time. The parts trader is a good source. Used or junkyard engines can be a crap shoot since their internal condition is unkown. Rebuilding can run into alot of $, or could be cheap. It depends on whats salvageable in your current motor. A teardown and inspection of the parts will tell you if its worth rebuilding.

I can get used 12a's and 13b's for around $350. I have NO IDEA of their condition as they come out of wrecks and salvages. You would have to pay shipping from Kentucky.
I realy dont have time for it, but if someone needs something i can sure try to help
