Woo Hoo! Just passed emissions! (reults)

Hey guys, I'm sure none of you really care, but I wanted to say that I'm thrilled that I passed TX new hardcore emissions test in my new -SE.

They run your car at load on a dyno and test at both high and low speeds... Here are the results.

Results. (completely stock 84 -SE)
High speed (25mph): RPM 1532
Allow measured
HC 252 35
CO% 1.63 .22
CO2 14.2
O2 .4
NOx 1877 155
Dilution >6 14.4

Low Speed(15mph) Rpm 1935
Allow measured
HC 260 25
CO% 1.47 .17
CO2 14.3
O2 .3
NOx 2058 114
Dilution >6 14.5

Of course as soon as I passed, I went home and took all that crap off so I can put my RB stuff on, but don't tell them that

Were those actually the RPMs they ran your car at? With mine, that's about what the readout said, but they actually ran the car at double (3000+rpm) Ran the 15mph in 1st and the 25mph in 2nd gear. My numbers were similiar except for the CO which was too high.

actualy I'm not sure what RPMS they ran it at. I didn't drive it.

I do know they used a tester that clamped around the spark plug wire, and I can only assume that's how they got the RPM measurement... How would that work out?

It measures when that plug sparks and depending on the engine type (4cyl, rotary, whatever) it can tell rpm by that. I didn't drive mine either, but I watched (also a 12A at 3400 rpm isn't exactly quiet)

Thats funny! If I had to live in a emission testing state/area, I'd take that a step further. I'd keep a "stock" relatively fresh engine and relatively fresh unused stock exhuast system for those stupid tests that rotaries should be excempt from in the first place. After passing the test, I'd go home and put the Bridgeport back in with the performance intake and exhaust of course. It could be easier to just have two identical cars with one in stock form and one with all the mods and simply use one of them for the tests. Yes, this seems somewhat extreme, but requiring emission testing a small portion of the cars out on the road doesn't make sense when they are hard to pass with flying colors in new shape.

Yeah... the lengths we will go to in order to avoid emissions...

I'd like to report that the new RB streetport exhaust system is now on the car and fully operational. Oh my god is it cool.... Pretty loud too. not real loud, but pretty loud, and very deep mellow tone..

And oh yeah. I get two little flames out the back on decel... Not as big as the 2 foot ones from my buddy's but still....

Yup, that's how my 84 used to pass emissions. I have owned both 84's and 85's and 84's do much better. But as you can see, a properly runnign RX-7 is not a smog problem. As a matter of fact, I looked up the 20 worst cars and all were the mid 80's and most carbureted. RX-7's were not on the list. I get tired of people calling my car "dirty" when it produces less emissions than an new Honda with "lean" burn technology.
