Got my 84 12a started it just takes forever to start and wont stay started any thoughs?

 

Search the forum. Could be tons of problems. Sparks, carb, fuel filter, list goes on and on.

 

this may be dumb, but are you choking it??

 

ive tried both.. choked and unchoked

 

anything done to the carb? Could be the tuning check yor idle needles. Check yor fuel system as well kinda sounds like the problem I was having, lack of fuel. Put some fuel treatment in the gas and find a way for the car to stay running. Also it could be built of carbon. Search the forum on how to do an ATF/MMO treatment. Oh yea put MMO fuel treatment in it.

 

MMO Done, It has old *** gas in it.. Im talkin yrs old gas lol... Im waitin on a Gas can tonight so I can drain the fuel and put some good in it and We'll see where it goes from there

if it has OLD OLD gas in it, pick up a spare fuel filter or two, in case that stuff is clogging it up. When you get it going again(stays running) pick up some seafoam to help clean it out.(I need to get some for mine as well).

 

where do I get seafoam?

 

O'Reilly's, I even believe autozone carries them. Check O'Reilly's first, they're an authorized dealer.

 

ok well I put new as in it and did nothing lol.. im gonna fill the tranny w/fluid tomorrow and pull it.. Ill keep yuall posted... BTW does ne1 have an extra coolant resevior i could mooch.. mine is missing

 

Well it started and I drove it but.. my clutch MC is out.. I couldnt shift and the carb seems too lean or rich cuz its just kinda boggin. I couldnt get over 3K rpm and it was losin it goin up hills... and Im shootin a flame out of the back of the car.... FROM THE HEADER lol.. Im sure its cuz I have no exaust right now though lol.... But neway.. basically Im losin it goin up a hill and i am having to rev it to keep it runnin ie pump pump pump lol... Whatcha think lol could it still be timing? or is it all fuel related
