okay ive checked everything on my 85 ive got fuel spark, compression, ive done the seafoam treatment and nothing the car turns over and smokes out the tail pipe but will not fire. oh yeah and it spits gas out of the carb. i tried a little oil down the carb with some gas too. but i cant get her to run does anyone have any clue as to what is going on? also the little canister on the far passangers side not the charcoal canister but the one thats mounted to the fire wall that has one cable and one vaccum line connected to it what the heck is that for? Thanks for your input!

Any background data? like what happenned between last time it did start up and now?

What you're looking at is the cruise control.

the plugs that need to be in the engine are the four prong plugs. dont worry about the cruise control. get some starting fluid and spray it in the carb and see if it runs. it kinda sounds like you have carb problems. if you're spitting gas out of the carb, things there arent right. where is it spitting gas out of?

The spark plugs you should be using should be NGK or Nippon Denso, none other.

Have you tried the deflooding procedure, sounds flooded to me, do a search on deflooding.

Is the car a carbed 12a or 13b with Fuel Injection?

Well if you have no background data there is a possibility the timing is way off. You'd see spark, and yet the car would not start. One thing to look into.

Well you won't be able to use a timing light since the car won't start. Check the Haynes manual on how to remove and re-install the dizzy, and follow those instructions. That should provide you with the initial timing adjustment that should enable to start your car.

Note: this will only work IF that is what is wrong with the car. If it looks like the dizzy has not been removed in 15 years, that's probably not it.

I agree. If the fuel is spitting back out of the carb then it definitely points to a severe timing issue. Good luck.
