window problems

Since my dad bought his 83 race car 2 years ago, I've put the window back on its track a few times. However, recently, it's gotton to the point where EVERY TIME we put down the window (power windows), the thing comes off the track and will only go up 3/4 of the way. Is there something I can do to adjust the track, or something? Has anyone experienced this?

Yea - this topic has come up many a time. Usually it's caused by the window binding in the track (the front edge is the worst) to the point that the motor pushes it off the track rather than along the channel. Pull the panel off a try a little spray silicone in the tracks and make sure you have the adjusters tighened to the point the window is snug - not jammed into the track. Also check to make sure the window is rolling up even; in other words, check to make sure that the front and back edge are coming up even - this can also be adjusted. There may be other solutions, but none that I know of.

Yep, and also you might want to take the window regulators out and re-lube. Use a combo of grease and wd-40, worked for me.
Also do a search, theres lots of help for you on this problem we've all had at one time or another.

This happens to me all the time. I cant even shut the door with the window down because it might come off the track. However, pull off the panel and re-lube all the moving parts. There is also a bolt (towards the front part of the door near the hinges) that adjusts the track.

The window regulator itself may need adjusting.

I had the same problem. I adjusted the front track all the way back in it's slot, still came loose every time I shut the door with the window down. I ended up lengthening the slot -- actually drilling a hole past the end. It seemed rather extreme at the time, but the window's worked great ever since.

There could be a number of causes..regulators, bent metal rails, insufficient lubrication, or your weatherstripping is done, or a combination of all.

i talked to Bret DePedro this weekend and he said the seals and regulators may need rebuilding/replacing. And to lubricate everything. "They're just a pain in the ***" - - bret lol
