window crank loose

My window crank is really, really, loose. (Well the metal part, not the plastic crank itself.) So today in autoshop I took the interior trim off the door so I could get at the thing. However I dont see anyway to tighten it up....

There isnt any reference to it in the haynes manual either.

For a 17 year old car.... I'm sure this happens to everybody without power windows eventually.

What can I do to tighten it up?

Yes, a new regulator is in order. The problem with Mazda regulators is that the outboard end of the shaft is not properly bushed, but rather a protruding pin rides in a little hole in the stamped metal, which ovals out eventually. Then the gear on the crank doesn't mesh with the teeth on the rack very well, and the whole thing gets worn out. I got a good one at a junkyard locally for $15. I pulled 4 and selected the best one, now I can pull one in about 5 minutes. Good luck! -WG

window regulator

The window regulators aren't rebuildable, that I'm aware of. To be honest, they're constructed rather cheaply.
There was another pretty good one that I stashed when I was busy pulling regulators at the junkyard that I could go get for you if you can't find a good one locally.
That junkyard wanted $20 for them.
That's why I ended up going to the toothless tweaker junkyard and getting a really nice one for $15, as well as a perfect set of those nice Accel 300+ wires for $5! You have to wade through a sea of mud and scour the entire lot to find the RX7s as they have NO idea of what cars are where and no logic to the way they pile the cars in there. It's really something to see. They have the least picked-over cars, though, for that very reason. -WG

I wont be getting a new one.... yet. I'm going to worry about it once my engine swap is done.

I'll probably be done in january, so if I dont find one by then I'll let you know.

My great hope was I just had to tighten somthing up... if only things were that easy.

I'll see if I can scrape up 30 bux. Even if I did buy it now, I wouldnt put it in untill I'm done with my swap.

I'll keep you posted.
