Thumbs down wimpy sealed-beam headlights

Lets face it, these old sealed-beam headlights really stink. Does anyone have any suggestions for brightening these things up? Of course *real* HID is the way to go but I don't wanna spend the 5 or 6 or 700 bucks for that. I'm also not so sure about those so-called "DIAMOND HID HEADLIGHTS" that I see on eBay all the time. It would seem to me that these can't have a high-beam setting. true? So has anyone found a good solution that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? TIA

I don't know about the ones you mentioned, but I got a H4 conversion kit with 60/55 watt bulbs and since they are not true HID they have high/low beams. They also have the sweet superwhite look, plus they are way better that stock. They install in about 20 mins at most. I got mine at:
http://www.showparts.com/
just follow the link named "housings/conversion kits"
Only like $45 too! the guy was really nice to work with.
Peace

I like my sealed beam headlights....well, they're pretty bad at night, so maybe I'll get some better ones.

Ok, let me clarify that - I like the look of them, but the beam is insufficient for night driving. There, satisfied?

There are new super white sealed beams out now. I think Phillips make 'em. They just came out a couple months ago. Same as those h4 conversions, but fully sealed.

For the millionth time:
http://lighting.mbz.org/

Don't touch the crappt almost-HID's, ultra-white, cool blue, or any other chitty gimmicks...

Read up at the site I posted...Then e-mail Dan Stern, the site's owner. He'll hook you up with stuff that will give you the BEST possible quality light.

Trust me...

Dan sold me a nice set of Hella (I think) e-code (european spec) conversions that use H4 (I think) bulbs...

Absolutely amazing!
