will it work? master cylinder question

i have a good brake master cylinder off of my 83 parts car, which had rear discs(its a GSL) that i want to use on my GSL-SE. i know that they are sold reman as 81-83 and 84-85. i was wondering if anyone had tried this setup or had any input as to why this will or will not work. i will be using the brake lines from me SE and the proportioning valve from my SE, as well as bench bleeding. thank you in advance for your input.

There was supposedly a different M/C used for the SE,although the brake caliper pistons are nearly the same size as the 12A GSL cars.It would work, worst thing that might happen would be the pedal would travel a little furthur when you push it.

I wouldnt say for sure,"everything will be fine", as that isnt exactly true.Since its your brakes and your life on the line,Id pony up the minimal cost for a proper,NEW, GSL-SE master cylinder and not take the chance. When it comes to brakes,I dont even mess with re-mans.....especially with the track record the re-man 1st gen clutch M/C's have....

It should get you back up and usable, But like steve said the bore maybe a little bit smaller and will not give top performance.

that does make sense. i think when i pull the old one out of the SE, i am going to measure the diameter of the one from the SE and compare it to the one from the 83.

From what I have read, they are either 7/8 or 13/16 bore (the drum have 13/16, the disc 7/8). I am putting a 13/16 (drum) master cylinder in the car that I am building with 13b front brakes and a gsl rear.

if i end up swapping, it'll only be temporary. it seems to have stopped leaking while sitting so i really dont know whats going on with that master cylinder.
