i have a mostly stock 85 gs at the moment, i would like to put racing beat springs into it and also add some new wheels and tires i was thinking about a 15x7 wheel and a 205-50-r15 tire to go with it. do you guys think i will have enough clearance with that set up??

 

Combo works just fine....ive been running that setup for years. Depending on wheel offset, may rub a little, bit more than likely you will have no issue

 

Needs to be about a 20 mm positive offset.

Yea, 0 offset will poke out and if it is lowered will cause fender interference issues. Some people like the look but I think it looks ugh. The 20 mm offset looks perfect, fills the fender up nicely without too much fender rubbing.

 

my plan is to go 15x8 0 offset and roll my fenders because I like that look. what kind of wheels are you looking at?

 

im looking at getting a set of the pro series by diamond racing, 15x7.

As has been mentioned, you will need to roll fenders even with a 20 offset. 0 just isn't going to work without fender flairs on a 8 inch wide wheel. Heck, 8 inch I think is too wide in general to run on the rear of an FB with a proper tire. If you stretch a 205 tire on it, it may work alright with a mild fender flair, but otherwise it won't work, especially if its lowered.

As for the 15x7's, 0 offset will likely hit the fenders very close to the outside and may not clear even with rolled fenders. Its up to you if you want to try, but I had to roll the fenders on my 82 with 16x7's with a 205 tire and 38mm offset and 15mm spacer (equalling a 23mm offet).

If you want some lip in your rim a 15x7 with a 10 offset will give you enough lip but I believe you won't have to roll your fender as much a a 0 offset (well duh, but I hope you get what I mean).

As a side note you will not be able use your car as a daily driver (if you have bad roads) with the Diamond wheels.

A larger wheel in general will cause your steering to become a workout at low speeds. Your ride will also get harsher. Over all the diamond racing wheel is a racing wheel it was never designed to take a beating from normal roads. Diamond racing wheels were designed to keep weight savings in mind. So the construction of the wheels is not as thick as a daily worthy wheel needs to be. Now, personally I say if you like it buy it, they're cheap and if anything happens you won't keep you up at night.

Work equip - Work's old school wheels also a bit pricy
All of them are custom

 

i wanna say that my wheels are a +12mm offset. fronts are virtually flush with the fenders, and i have yet to have any rubbing issues under any conditions (+ im also running racing beat springs)

 

gsl-se has a different offset that's probably why
