will a TII fuel pump work on a 12A

Im looking to buy a few 1st gens and one of them has a bad fuel pump. I have a spare TII pump lying around and I was wondering if it would fit on an 82.
Thanks,
Drew

Nope, 2nd gen fuel pumps are inside the fuel tank while the 1st gens are outside under the car. Plus the FI fuel pumps have way higher PSI than you need for your carb.

Pumps don't make PSI, pumps supply a volume!

You *could* get it to work if you bought a special $130 regulator and paid someone a ton of money to modify your fuel tank to accept an in-tank pump... A new fuel pump should cost about $30. Your call!

oh peejay, what would we do without you. lost in oblivion, unaware of how we have strayed from the rotary gods...........and alas like a shining angel you pull us from the brink of destruction. for you have spoken, and psi it is not, but volume that we will attain.

amen

Should take ya about 15-20 mins with yer trusty 10mm wrench (or socket fer y'all who are new-aged and shiat)... un-do the two mounting bolts, un-do the pump from the bracket, take the lines and electrical coupler off, and put the new'ne on in 'verse order...

Cool, sounds easier than my T2. Also, I've been reading alot about other problems associated with no fuel. Is there any way I can be sure that it is the pump before I just replace it?

pop off the main (big) fuel line at the carby, and put it in a plastic pop bottle (600ml here) then turn the key to the "run" position, and have someone watch the fuel flow for about 45 seonds... it should fill that bottle in 45. If not, it's the pump, or the lines outta the tank (or the filter).

The real test, as it is outta the haynes manual, is that it should pump out 1100cc's (1.1L) of gas in a minute, in case you want to be perfectly precise...

Thanks man, I will give that a try.
There's a guy trying to sell me 3 FB's for $500
one is good but wont idle (carb problem)
one dosen't get fuel
one had BAD oil seals
They have all been sitting several years but he started them all for me and they sounded good. (the one w/ no fuel only ran for a min on starting fluid)
I figured I would rip the fuel pump off the 84 that gives off the smoke show and put it on the 82 with no fuel to see if I could get it running. That fuel pump should swap right (84 into 82)??
Thanks for all your help, this is my first experience with a 1st gen, and hopefully not my last.

yeah, 84 pump will fit in an 82 and vise-versa.... UNLESS it's a gsl-se... which I doubt...

sounds like a decent deal to me... I'd go for it. The non-idling one could be a seal problem too... but you'd have 1 good car and three parts cars to fool around with even then...

Well, a rough idle, and not idleing at all is also a sign of a blown or stuck apex seal, but it is probably just carburator problems...

oh, and make sure the infamous wheel well rust isn't present on any of the cars you plan on registering and insuring....

Its definatley not an apex problem from what I can tell. I had a motor blow in my T2 a while back and the car runs much to well to have bad seals. Wheel well rust..... Does that mean any rust at all or alot?? I'd imaging small amounts of rust could be neutralized, right??

well, it can be fixed (in fact, I fixed mine), but it's always a question of "is it easier to just wait and find a different car?" It's a difficult task, requiring a torch, a donor car, and a welder...

If they're TX cars, they're probably OK...buy 'em...you can sell a non-running rex for $400 easily if the body is in good shape. That's 800 easy $$ and you've still got one to play with...if one's an '81 or '82 with a good body, you've got a buyer right here....
