Wide Enough?
That looks dangerous, with that much grip on the road, and that much stress on the beads, a hard corner could peel the rim, and if the metal hits the concrete just right it could catch and damage something or flip you. this is of course the worst possible scenario and it is unlikely but there are reasons we don't usually run setups like that.

I'll see your 8.5 and raise you 2 more...

I don't know about yours, but mine are old road race tires with beads made to fit narrow wheels. The sidewalls are incredibly stiff. I've only raced on them once for fun at an autocross.

I remember when you showed up with those monsters. That was one of the wildest tire setups I've ever seen. But yeah, you can tell that they're made to fit that way. Sure look weird though...
The sidewalls on mine are verrrry stiff. I don't get what you guys are talking about that they are dangerous, I really don't think so. I have this posted at with the autocross club I'm with and they aren't mentioning any danger, they are just helping me with what PSI to run at.
I can't imagine how much rub you get with those 10.5s man, I have about .25" of rub on my strut with these I have to take care of.

Yeah, and one of our senior members said exactly what bshusted said-they are designed to fit narrower wheels. None of the guys there said they'd be afraid to run them. Damn, now I wish I got 10.5s, lol. I'd need a 3" spacer on the front though.
Not drag slicks my friend, they are road racing slicks.
As it turns out, there are wide hoosiers made to fit small rims, and wide hoosiers made to fit wide rims. These are the ones made to fit wide rims, unfourtunately. I'm shipping them back and getting them exchanged with the ones made for narrow wheels. They will be 20x8, same width but less height.

The Hoosier 9.5 slicks are actually a little over 10 wide and they are designed to fit on a 7" wide rim. The 8.5 are probably at their narrowest rim allowed on those stockers. They are called cantilevered slicks, designed for classes that have maximum rims widths but could really use more tire. Shoot for about 26-28 psi hot, if you get any temp rise at all.
