Why is my car topping out at 110mph??

Okay... I own an 85 GSL-SE and i have heard that the cars can go at speeds of 140mph. Well about 1 1/2 months ago i was going to an AutoX event and i went 120mph no problem at all. Well... 3 days ago i was driving home and i topped out at 110mph. I didn't think much of it at the time... but since then i have tried and tried... and the car just won't go past 110mph. Any ideas or suggestions? Could this be clogged cats?
Thanks in advance for any help... it is greatly appreciated!!

It's not that easy, when it's an -SE. fuel filter's aren't cheap compared to a 12a filter. place your hand over the tailpipe tips,,,while the car is running,,,,is there presure comeing out ??? if not, cats clogged. My GS has a bonez hi-flow cat. worth the money IMO.

Hey thanks guys!! Your suggestions are a big help. I was also suspecting it being my fuel pump because if i park on an uphill i have to hold the gas down for a couple secs to get fuel to the engine.
This reinforces my hypothesis... thanks again guys and i will get to ordering a new fuel filter and pump.

Is your -SE stock? For the short time I had mine it would only get to an indicated 124-ish. Maybe 127 with a stiff tailwind. I think the person that told you it could do 140 was only going by what's printed on the speedo...

o lol yeah i really kinda pulled 140 out of the air on that one. I know that they really can't reach that high stock, however i also know that 110 isn't the top speed either because i went 120ish not a problem and could have gone more before. So hyper... where di dyou get the fuel pump?

i got the holley from my buddie, but it's not enough fuel presure for a gsl-se cause fuel injected cars reqire higher fuel pressure. so my holley wouldn't be enough for yo're car. but try looking on summit they've got everything....
