Headlights UP

Does anyone else pop their headlights up to say "Hi" when they see another 1st gen? Someone did it to me once in Chicago about 5 years ago and I've been doing it ever since.

A wave out the window or sunroof will do.

Years ago, when I was a lad, MG owners would flash lights upon encounter. Then other European cars would do it: even Porches. There was a convenient switch for this purpose: on my 62 Alfa the big button at the center of the steering wheel did it.

But this custom fell into disuse as foreign cars became more common, tho I daresay the driver of, say, a Renault Dauphine would flash his lights upon seeing the astounding apparition of another Dauphine coming his way.

Corvette owners will raise the number of fingers of their car's generation. My buddy puts up four fingers to every vette and they just keep driving.... too common.

Huh, I usually only put up one finger to Vettes and they seem to know what I mean.

I live in Queensland, Australia. There just doesn't seem to be that many 7's getting around. In the past 3 months, I have only seen about 5 total, when I do, it's kind of a thrill. Especially the other day I came up to a set of lights and there was a green series 1 in front of me, as we cruised along the highway for a bit the driver must have realised another 7 was behind, next thing I see a hand come out the window and I was getting the small finger and the first finger (thumb tucked over the remaining two) sign, as you might see at an ACDC concert. As I drove almost alongside, I realised it was a girl, really getting into it and excited that she had seen me. Was pretty cool. The only other times I have noticed special attention is motorcycle riders to each other and boaties on the water. ya don't really see all Toyota drivers acknowledging one another. . . I think it's a good idea!

It's very common for road bicycle riders to acknowledge each other when crossing paths too.

Meh, I wave to other Toyota Pickup drivers around here, and they all wave back.

It all depends on the kinda car you drive, whether it's a novelty type thing, etc. 'Cause there's not many people that drive early 80's (83 and udner) Toyota's around here anymore, and most of us do our own work on our trucks, and respect other peoples' work, so they acknowledge that by waving...

RX-7's are the same way...

Yeah, I've seen only a few first gens around here. I passed a guy a bit ago and honked the horn and waved. He did the same when he passed me.

When I was out in Washington I saw a seven every day. heh
