Who has a custom made sheet metal gauge holder?

Okay, I KNOW someone has a fabricated sheet metal gauge holder (for Autometer gauges) in place of their stock dashboard gauges, however my search results have pulled up nothing. At first I thought it was Directfreak's but after relooking at the interior, I was incorrect.

So, if anyone DOES have a custom made gauge holder for their dash, would you mind posting up pictures, along with dimensions? I'm looking to do the same in the near future.

That's nice but I'm talking about gauges, not the idiot lights. Still neat looking, tho. And, that post is regarding the 2nd Gen's, I'm talking about 1st Gens (more specifically, 84-85).

adding to my reply..if you do the Light relocation (using just the Essential Idiot Lights)..then you could do a top Gauge installation..(on top where the idiot lights used to be..)..and I believe that there is someone making Carbon Fiber Gauge Pods..(sorry ..just can't recall who,at the moment)..anyhow I hope that is something useful for ya..EDIT.. sorry for the second gen Stuff ..but It may give you an idea as to what you may be able to do for your First gen..Best of luck to ya..

No, damn you and your 2nd Gen! *L* j/k ....wouldn't mind HAVING a 2nd Gen to play with, too..........

Thanks, all suggestions/help IS appreciated. However, I'm looking more towards keeping the setup of how my gauges are: tachometer and speedometer in the middle, with the four mini gauges on the sides, two per, one over the other. And, I'm not a pillar pod person, if that's what you were also referring to. But, I do like how some do theirs in the lower DIN under the radio.

Dimensions I'm hoping that whoever did theirs, they used only a certain amount of sheetmetal (H"xW") so that I know what to give a sheetmetal place (there is a metal shop that can do custom fabrication).

I've done something similar, but it was only a tach into the stock gauge cluster.

I needed a 10K tach for my PP13B car, so I used a 3 3/8 Autometer Ultralight tach. Quite simple and all I had to do was tap into the existing circuits in the cluster.

Just food for thought...

I thought i had posted a pic of my cluster, guess not. I took the side gauges out and covered the holes and replaced all of the gauges except the tach and speedo, which are the only gauges in my cluster now.

Here is a link to the pics. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ight=unvieling

That's not bad, but I know someone on here has a complete AutoMeter gauge setup for their dash console gauges: Tach, Speedo, Volt, Oil P., Water Temp., Fuel. This is all I'm really wanting info on.

i dont think those all fit.. will an autometer speedo even be the right speed? i would be interested..

what about a fuel level gauge.. where would you put that if you had to keep the stock one. or would an aftermarket one work off the same resistance?

soo many questions so little answers

No idea on the partnumber...this was years ago! I think I paid about $88 for the tach, but prices have undoubtedly risen. Keep in mind I had to make a fiberglass ring to fit the gauge to the stock tack hole, but it was not complicated.

Actually, I'd be replacing all of the gauges with Autometer. I wanted to do this after I've read that the stock tach may go out of calibration and how you're better off getting a nice aftermarket oil pressure gauge to get a true reading.

And, I checked out the photo album for 82streetracer's car. Unless he changed out his interior recently, his dash gauges are still the same. I *think* it's the one who has the user name of "Angel Drag Racing" or something like that.
