Driveshaft or maybe U-joints... Start at the driveshaft then you could check rear end and/or tranny... Could be either one... Sorry I can't be of more help but with those simptoms it could be either one... I would suggest moderate driving... you don't want that driveshaft to hit the ground... Specially from the front at 55mph or over...

that was on mythbusters. they got the car to flip after they put a large object where the driveshaft hit. or it just scraped the ground.

You want to get under the car and with your hands turn the driveshaft back and forth. Any "play" or u-joint failure will be easy to see,. some rx7's driveshafts are not re-buildable, just re-place the entire driveshaft. For the steering ,,, that means all the front suspentions ball-joints are shot, re-place all the pieces.

Try swapping your wheels back to front. If it follows teh wheels then you may have thrown a wheel balance weight or a tire is about to go. If it sticks to the rear end its either a drive shaft issue or a rearend issue. Check the drive shaft for play and also put the rear on stands and start the car putting it in gear ( might take two people for this ), run it up to speed until you feel the vibration and look at the shaft to see if it looks like its wobbling or chalk it and make sure the chalk line is even all the way around when your done. If it passed this test its in the rear end. Could be bearings or a bent axle or something in the pumpkin. Keep narrowing it down. Next thing to check would be the axles, might want to pull them and see what the bearings look like. They usually make a good amount of noise when the go bad tho.

I'm betting you threw a wheel weight or its a tire/rim issue since it seems to have come on suddenly. Even the driveshafts usually start out as small vibrations that slowing get worse, thats why I don't think its the driveshaft automatically.

Good luck.

they didn't get the car to flip, the rear end jumped 3 or 4 feet in the air and it ripped the rear end out of the car. the driveshaft hit a pothole at about 55mph.

but ya, check out the driveshaft and u-joints, if it's not that, then you may need new bearings in your rear axle.

With the car off, put it in gear and rock it forward/backward. Listen for noises from the driveshaft/rear end.
