The oem J-spec mirrors are near impossible to find and outrageously expensive. Several members that are doing restorations have been looking for years. A better option might be to look for mirrors that came off of other Japanese cars of the same era.

another option is the English RX7 side mirrors they are square....and fit in the same holes as ours....they were also on the Australian models...

I may have a set to sell you if interested.....

well one of the reasons for swapping up to the fender is that the mirrors on the doors are always wallowing out the holes. i have some of the raydot style off my old triumph, however the pedestal is too short. after looking this is what im talking about...........

they look like the raydots with a longer/taller mount
edit just noticed this is on another forum i can try there as well!

Motorcycle mirrors are pretty small, and I know that I literally have to hold the mounting stem on my R6's mirrors to see anything in them.

I don't know, I usually kind of like the retro look, but I think the Mazda designers did the right thing relocating them to the doors. They look better, are remote controlled and probably are much better at showing what's behind you.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the mirrors on the doors are always wallowing out the holes" but with a few exceptions on the most beat up ones most of my 20+ year old mirrors are still working fine.

I'd stick with the stock mirrors, just an idea.

I rolled 1 of my first gens and the mirrors didn't break off they bent the doors in. The bolts were still tight to the door not even loose.

Why try to talk them out of the fender mirrors?

There are come nice mirrors made for the British cars like:
Talbot and Raydyot
more mirrors

Cabe Toyota in Long Beach sells this convex set:
