where do you hide your kill switch?

So after wiring up a kill switch to the engine fuse block and mounting it in the dash I've decided to wire one up to the fuel pump instead and hide it out of site to help with my flooding problem (constant now) and act as a theft deterrent. So where do you think a good place would be to hide the switch yet still provide easy everyday access?

Right on-

Maybe try figuring out a way to put a push-button toggle somewhere around the steering column (like the way the hazard light switch is set up) that way it's right there when you go to start the car, and a theif isn't gonna know what it does, or how to work it. Maybe on the other side near the wiper switch? Or try putting it in the blank switch spot next to the power mirror adjust switch... Just a couple of my ideas...

Hi.

I was interested in kill-switches a while ago. (Since I took off 2 of the wheels and the battery, I'm less worried about hotwiring now).

The best suggestion I found was on a MX5 site. It was a description of how to wire a kill-switch through the cigarette lighter. I think it goes like this: You remove the element, and just have it set up as a circuit, so that when you have the lighter pushed in, the car will run, and when it is in the normal position, it won't work. No one would ever figure it out, and you can even take the lighter away with you when you leave the car, making it
impossible for someone to trigger the switch.

It also means that no one will be using your cigarette lighter to smoke in your car, which is a plus in my book.

I can find the link if you like.

Yeah, that's awesome! I actually never would have thought of that! Really all the cigarette lighter is is a switch, and when the switch is on it puts power to the heat coil... so realy all you'd have to do is take out the heater part... cool.

Hi.

Here's the link:

http://www.miata.net/garage/killswitch.html

The cigarette lighter bit starts at "ADDENDUM" about one third of the way down the page, but the whole thing is a good read.

If anyone tries this, I'd be keen to hear about the details. I plan on doing it, but not for a while...

sounds like a decent idea, but what if you lose your lighter, then youd have to use a penny or somethin everytime you start your car and that would suck

You wouldn't have to take out the heat element... for one thing, it's part of the switch I think, for another thing, it only heats up and pops out if it gets enough current flowing through it. If you hoolk it up to the fuel pump (what, 5 amps?) the fuel pump pretty much limits how much current flows through the switch, and I don't think 5A is enough to trip the cig lighter. (Maybe hook it thru a relay to be safe?)

FWIW I saw this article in Car Craft on some 10-second 4th-gen Camaro, it was pure bottle-rocket but it looked entirely stock. Every part of the nitrous system was extremely well hidden, and the cig lighter was the "arm" switch. Pretty cool.

(but what do you use to power your radar detector? )

But wouldn't the heat element draw power from your fuel pump? BAAAADDDDD......

Good point.... So hook it thru a relay. No prob. Probably should re-wire the fuel pump anyway just to make sure it's getting full voltage...
