Hey everyone I’m trying to get this out of my old 12a and put it in my new streetported 12a but I don’t what the real name of this part is. But I need it, or a new one and, I can’t find it anywhere online. Also is there a good way of getting it out without with the least chances of damaging it?
It's pressed in. SA and early 1981 are thread in, which doesn't help you much, but is neat to know.
I had to remove one when I had Chips redo two engines' worth of side housings. Heat the housing and twist, heat and twist, and it came out.
It didnt press back in, it sort of rattled around. I swedged it larger by putting a hardened rod (used to be part of a strut, but a beefy socket may work) in a vise and hammering the tube a bit to thin the material, which opens up the OD. Then used a lot of Right Stuff on it and hammered it back in.
Hey, I was just thinking about making a post about this as well! I need to replace mine but I'm not sure how to find one. What are they called in a general sense? I did look in the parts fiche and couldn't find a part number. I was able to locate one for the rx-8 but I wasn't sure if it'd work or not.
It's the coolant outlet for the heater core. Nice of Mazda to take that coolant from the hottest part of the engine.
The -83-85 12A has the two outlet unit as shown for the coolant based "beehive" oil cooler. Not as nice of Mazda to cool the oil with the hottest coolant available. I've always wanted to use a beehive but stick a hose barb on the water pump housing outlet and take coolant from there instead. That's the coldest coolant in the cooling system. I actually went as far as modifying a housing for this but never got the round tuits to complete the job.
I have a leaky oil cooler and a collection of beehives, maybe it's time? I have a FC oil cooler and stuff to make brackets for it, but I really don't want to cut this car up to fit it. The beehive seems like it may be a cleaner way to go. Hmm....
