well how do your nattery cables look? might not be getting enough juice

if so take the starter off and have it tested, its free at most parts places, and its easy to take off too

Yeah - check electrical connections to the starter, check your ground to the tranny. My starter ("new" one on "new" tranny) is really slow in comparison to my old one. Seems I didn't have a proper ground and it makes all the difference.

Sounds like its flooding.....

People always say push start fixes flooding problems.

You should get your choke fixed.

it could be low compression to....

not to sound like the bringer of death or anything...

but when a car has low compression, it's near impossible to start with the starter, but pulling it spins the motor fast enough to burn the fuel mixture...

I'M OFFENDED j/k. but like thay said just try to push start it, 99% of the time you can diagnose the problem by doing that. And check ALL of the connections.
And somebody help me is they're an engine fuse for 12a's cause if there is check it.

Is it harder to start when warm?

That's one of the bigger signs of low compression... hard hot starts...

Have you had the car long and did it work properly before the work you did???

If the stater is dragging and not spinning the engine fast enough, or,,,,,you may be getting too little voltage to the electronics. Since you have NO drain on the battery when push starting, the voltage may be high enough for it to work then. Answser please, did the car start before you did the work???????
If you are new to the car,,,,,it is common for folks to get the wires wrong when doing a "tune-up",,,,,which is why I asked if you were SURE you have it right. If the trailing and leading circuts are reversed, the car will run (but be down on power) and may not start because timming will be out by 20o. If you are flooding it ,,,, do you know how to check and fix it???
If you have little experience with this car,,,,say so and we can help more. This car is NOT like a piston in many respects and even if you are engine wise with pistons you may be assuming too much knowledge for this one.
We really need some more info from you to help. Not starting is too vauge. When you push start does it run GOOD then (good power, runs smooth). If you are driving it by push starting, do you have enough miles on it to check the plugs for color etc.?? You said the battery cables are new, but does that mean you have made sure the contacts to body AND motor are proper.??
Spill the beans,,,,,we have questions before we have answers. Review all the above posts and fill in the blanks,,,,,,,,

Open your choke manually from inside the engine bay and try turning it over.

these engines make alomost no compression at very low speeds. thats why you can turn it over by hand. if the starter isn't spinning it fast enough it won't catch. as was said here, figure out why it isn't spinning the starter faster. whether its the battery or starter or connection. also like racermike said, check that the wires are hooked up right. i'm sure everyone here can vouch for having done that once or twice.

I DO NOT know to much about these cars... ive been reading and ASKING ppl not only on here.. BUT from the mazda ppl to/mazda ASE people, but they have said to check multiple things, as i have done over and over again, still it has the EXACT same symptoms... ALL the motor does is turn over, there is gas going into the carb barrels, and there is spark... the alternator is good/new.. and the timing has been corrected when the car was running.. ALSO the car was acting up a long time before i changed these things... these things were only canged because they really did need to be changed.. BUT ALL changes occured AFTER breakdown... BUT i want to ASK you gise somthing too... how will i know if the wires are messed up? i put the wires EXACTLY back how it came to me... i popped open the hood, disconnected ONE wire at a time...and changed ONE plug at a time, since i dont really know much, i figure everything goes back the way it came out...by any chance.. would the car have a hard time, MAYBE not even start when the wires are crossed all wrong? because it always had a hard time to start, even when i was buying the car... test driving the car and all... ok.. now the starter.. i took the starter to my friends shop.. they hooked it up and it work PERFECTLY... nothing wrong there.. so i cleaned it all up and made sure metal would be connected and wires would have a clean touch... secondly, i have spark, from the coils to the wires.. and from the wires to the plugs, and from the plugs to the rotory engine plugs are tight (NGK), wires are clean... coils are brand new... im stuck.. and i hope i have gave you all enough info to trouble shoot my pour baby!!!.. im really trying here, i have been giving all the info that has been bestoud onto me... info is based upon what i have come across..
- lastly... full description of whats going on in the hood..
- sounds like a panty, not turning fast or it does, but like for a few seconds, then starts to lag and slow down, so i hooked up jumper cables still same thing, has enough and more then enough power BUT still just turning over and over....
- i throttle it a lil bit, give it a couple more turns and it sounds like it just wants to keep spinning and wants to keep going, BUT it slows down and lags..(even hooked to the jumpers)
-when the car turns on by me pushing it, or if lucky by starter.... it cant really idle... it actually doesnt idle
