what's the tube/hose on back of intake?

putting together a 85 rx with a 12a. i didn't take it apart and there is a tube going to a heater hose on the intake manifold right by the firewall. where does it go? also there is a wire by the starter with an eyelet on it. it either goes to positive terminal on starter or negative terminal on starter. anyone know? have chilton's and hayne's manuals

Don't know off the top of my head but sounds like the FSM and Carb manual might help if you dont already have a copy.

Available in the link in my signature.

Oh I did not know that.

http://foxed.ca/foxed/index.php?page=rx7manual

The procedure should be in the FAQ's.

Change all fluids. Your gas will be bad, drain it. Change the fuel filter, oil, oil filter.

Browsed through the FAQ's its not there. I KNOW RX7doctor had a good thread on it, I'll try and dig it up.

Do you know if anything was done before it was stored or have you just got this car. A full tune up can never do any harm like plugs and wires.

Some of this thread is extreme but with no knowledge of the car, it could be useful

Another good one to peruse is:

ok, guy who had it thought he was a rally star and slammed it into a curb sideways. anyway he pulled the diff and engine and took the manifolds and everything off it(don't know why?) So i changed the bent axle, rims, link bushings, ect. new engine gaskets and put the engine back together and got it in. don't know what or where the hose (like 5/8" i think) off of the intake manifold goes. just goes straight down off the manifold. by the little tube that runs into the exhaust. new oil and filter. not totally sure if i installed distributor right either. this is the first rotary i've played with, so not sure about where the freaky dist. rotor should be pointing.

ok, figured it out. it's supposed to be hooked up to a pipe that runs back to the main catalytic converter. but it's not there for some reason. only two missing parts so far. this pipe and one of the heater hoses.

Theres a thread in the archives called How to find TDC which should help with the distributer setting. Should be pretty easy to find with the search button using advanced search in the first gen section.

There is no negative terminal on the starter. Negative battery cable connects to the engine side of the long starter mounting bolt. The heavy gauge wire with the ring goes from the + terminal on the battery to the + terminal on the starter. That is the one without the braided wire connected to it. The spade connector on the starter is for the normal size wire from the ignition switch.
