Whats the Likely Problem?

Ok, the 7's been sitting for roughly a year to a year and a half in our garage, and yesterday we went to start it up, and it just kept turning over and over. Once it sounded like we almost got it going, but no luck at all. We made sure all the sparkplugs are connected correctly to distributor, but don't wanna tear the whole thing apart since we don't have time, and no idea whats wrong?

its a 83, 12a of course. thx for help

Stop turning it over.

Do a search for starting a car after it's been sitting. It's a topic that is brought up regularly. It sounds like a fuel problem (sure your fuel pump is working?) or possibly an ignition problem (everything firing?). An ATF treatment never hurt a tired engine either

Id say check the tank for a drain plug. My 83 has one. Drain the tank and get a new filter. Then, put some nice fresh gas in it, and try that. If that doesnt work, get yourself a can of starting fluid and try that. Also, try the ATF trick too, but be sure to drain and refill the tank and gt a new filter for it first. No sense in getting it running with all that old petrol() in there, because it will just get sucked up into the carb and cause you more problems that you may already have with it. Anyway, I hope everything works out for you .

PS - I know this may sound stupid, but why was it parked for so long? Did something happen to it and you forgot about it? That just happened to my friend, haha.

EDIT: Ive read so many of these things about screwed tanks and stuff...I got my car from a junk yard and it hadnt been run or moved in 3 years. I swapped engines, and followed my own advise above about the drain and flushing and filter, and Ive never had another problem *knocking on wood*.

Try pulling it down the road about 15 mph, let out the clutch in 2nd gear with the throttle wide open without pumping it. Bet it starts right up after puking out a big cloud of smoke. Sometimes this ends up being the ONLY way to clear out a loaded-up rotary.

Some MMO and starting fluid (ether) would probably do it. Toss a little MMO down the carb and spray the air filter liberaly with ether. Should get her going...
