Question What's the easiest way to replace a ruined 12A?

Hey all. I've been out of the RX7 game for a long time, but will always love these cars. I'm trying to help out a friend who has the good taste and bad sense to want an FB. Through family, he's been offered a 12A car with a pooched motor - rotors are corroded and the housings are chipped. He doesn't want to do a big custom build, just wants to have a driver that he can enjoy.

I expect that a shop like Atkins that sells 12A rebuild kits might be able to direct him to a source for a rebuildable used 12A, but are there known good sources for something like this?

Also, is staying with 12A more trouble than it's worth? If it was me, I'd be putting an EFI S5 13B in there, but he's pretty intent on doing the quickest/easiest/cheapest route to having a running, driving car - which I think actually makes a lot of sense. Would rebuilding a newer 13B with an RB Holley intake AND getting it mounted and running in the FB be easier or harder than finding and rebuilding a decent 12A?

Thanks for any advice or insight on this.

at this point in time the best/cheapest is kind of some variation of what you have to start with, and or what you can find locally.
pretty much any 74-1995 engine is easy to put in the car.

There are no good sources for 12A engines. Your best bet are folks on this forum that have 12A parts that can be verified. Unless a 12A is opened up, who knows if any part is usable.
