There's a lot of differences in the U.S. The SA is the 1979-80 rx7s. FB are from 1981-85. It's all from the vin number. Same with 2nd and 3rd generation cars. It tells you all about about it in the FAQ page. Lots of good stuff in there. Check it out. Might answer a lot of questions you might have.

Lol aside from the chrome bumpers on the sc there are some major differences. One of the most notable being that the sa had a thermal reactor for the exhaust. Secfond, there was no disc brake option for the rear end. Third is the dash and interior pieces. 4 would be that the distributor had points instead of the electronic ignition on the fb. There was also a much more tolerable emissions set up on the sa. The sa in 79 had a 6 month waiting list here in northern california when it first hit the market ( my hr manager got one and waited) whereas the fb had no waiting list that I'm aware of. Bzzzt. The SA did not come with chrome bumpers. US SA's did not come with any exterior chrome at all except badging (the door, hatch, and gas-door locks are stainless, not chrome). Non-NorthAm SA's came with chrome license plate lamp covers.

Bzzzt. The 1980 SA came with electronic ignition, based on remoted J105 ignitors on an electronic control box on the left fender. The 81 FB moved the ignitors to the distributor, and switched to J109's.
