Arrow What are you searching for? What's archivable?

Hey Guys,

Well I figured that the best way to improve the FAQ and the Archive is to find out from you guys what should be there that isn't.

- What do you search for? (this includes things that you *know* exist, you just can't remember where it went, or threads you reference often which aren't in the Archive)

- What questions are you asking or answering all the time, which aren't already in the FAQ or Archive?

- What threads have you found that might come in useful? threads you have bookmarked or saved?

This thread is for things that ARE NOT already included in the archive or FAQ. If you're new to the forum and are looking for an answer to a question, please look through the archive or FAQ before coming here.

If you're a long time forum-junkie-rotary-veteran, anything that you think should be added to the existing topics in the FAQ and Archive would also be welcome.

Come on guys, let's dredge up some awesome old threads, create some new ones, and make our FAQ and Archive the End-All, Be-All of SA/FB rotary knowledge!

It took me a lot of searching to make my list for the GS/GSL to GSL-SE suspension swap

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...=shopping+list

Also, I find myself searcing for info on aftermarket carbs and setups for putting a carb'd 13b in my GS. Things like that.

Sweet! I'm in the archives! This is the type of spontaneous advertising that changes your whole life. Things are going to start happening to me now.

Maybe a good thread on what Weber is what would be nice. IDA, DCO, DCOE, Downdraft, Sidedraft, it's all a little intimidating at first.

Also,

I've noticed that many of the good, but older threads in the archives have lost their pictures. Usually because the original person who posted the thread had them hosted on a server available to them (like an academic web server) which no longer contains their data.

If anyone has saved copies of threads with pictures which are in the archive (or should be) please let me know by PMing me. For example, I'd love to get the pictures back for the dash removal tutorial, or the pictures of DF's fuel system install, and I think there are pics missing from one of the TII threads.

Thats a very good point you bring up Jon about the pictures ... I always like to upload them through this server to stay on it. because that is something that usually gets me mad.

Lol at the edit ... i was just coming to edit it actually

Anyhow I also wanted to add that if we could do a thread or if there is a thread out there that covers all the max/min offset do able on our cars, also rim sizes and what now ... that seems to be another big thing

The trouble is I never know what's missing until I can't find it!

One thing I'm looking for now is the thread on Compression Testers where one of the guys reported getting 2 old recording testers on eBay cheaply and using them. I'm certain he was talking about the "MotoMeter" tester, tho he didn't mention it by name, so I bought a used MotoMeter on eBay for $30, paid $10 for shipment from Israel, and now I'm trying to get the correct adapter and exchange MotoMeter lore with other guys. But I can't find the original thread! And it was only about a month ago!

The MotoMeter is promising because it records the actual compression on special recording cards as the motor turns, thus obviating the usual problems with piston engine testers. They're used a lot for diesels, too. Actually, the MotoMeter would be useful for debugging piston engines too when there is a mystery problem with power loss, etc. But I'll hold off telling everyone that until I have a corner on the Motometer market (I don't think they're made anymore, but parts and papers are easy to get).

Nice idea Jon-

I don't have the time right now to verify whether or not these are in the archives, but here are a couple of links to some decent info:

Carter fuel pump/Holley fpr installation: https://www.rx7club.com//showthread.php?t=529605

Using contact cleaner to get headlights working again: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...dlight+cleaner

Tightening up the loose steering: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...steering+grind

Great idea Jon!

Off the top of my head;

1. I'd like to see some some tips on "how" to search and return more hits. What the "archive" is versus "Search this forum" for newbies instead of just telling them to "search".

2. A glossary of terms (dizzy, rats nest, cats, half-bridge, DLIDFIS, etc).

3. A members page with pictures broken down by year and model (kind of like this, but much better ) http://www.durtydubs.com/members/ind...3a87559d6586bb

4. Wheel sizes and bolt patterns for different years and models.

I'll add more later.

Thanks,

DD

I'd actually like a thread about tuning your Nikki both for perfect stock conditions and for best performance without changing jets, etc. The carb manual in trochoid's sig line really didn't help me much. I'd like to know about how many rotations the a/f mix screw needs to be out and what is considered a turn, 180* or 360*? Things like that.

I have tried to activate the FAQ button at the top of this page on a number of occaisons from both my home and work computers but always get the same result, type in a keyword, any keyword, and it comes back that there are no hits. So apparently the link is dead.

I have the actual FAQ page listed in my bookmarks on my office computer, thanks to a member who sent it to me, but it would be nice to be able to access the FAQs conveniently, so the first thing I'd do is fix that link.

Recently I was having a weird overheating problem (here's the link to the post: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/e-fan-fan-clutch-atf-other-myths-exposed-620821/) and I started with a manual search of this forum. I got lots of hits but couldn't find anything on how to systematically run down an overheating problem (but I did get lots of hits suggesting that if the car is overheating you should replace your fan clutch with an E-fan).

So then I searched Google and almost immediately found this relevant and helpful link:

http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/tech1.htm

So maybe a little less about E-fans and other ways to alter your 7 and more on how it actually works?

Thanks Vipernicious for helping to make this a great forum for RX-7 owners!

If your down for creating new threads specifically for the archives, how about a "Definitive Body Kit" guide. Only pictures and links to off the shelf available body kits, bumpers, widebody's, and things like that.

*laughs* I think that would be included in a "what NOT to do to your Rx7" thread

Keep 'em coming guys, I'll tally it up whenever I have spare time (hopefully this weekend) and clean up this thread so we can fill it with more stuff.

Wheel sizes, like the bolt patterns of the GSL-SE and the regular GS, S, GSL, etc, and the rims that will bolt directly on and go, I can't find those in the FAQ. Or maybe I'm blind.

BTW, what happened to RX3mist.com?

How about a good thread on suspension dos and do nots, mainly explaining suspension geometry and setup to a complete new, and a later thread for the more advanced people, that discusses full race setups.

A carb comparison thread would also be helpful, I see that alot o people have there chosen few but are afraid to move out of there safety blanket. Basic tuning and operation, and performance modification would be very helpful. Along with a comparison of what the differences in styles of carbs and the performance aspect of each. Case in point a reason for why holley is the(insert teal here) best, why not a rockchester or other square bore. Things like this need to be explained and archived as it is basic information, for hte basic maintance and performance of our cars.

79-04 RX-7/RX-8 manuals, wiring diagrams and other doccuments, including the how to mod your rx-7 book.
