lol....this is how it always starts....start saving for the Mallory Comp110 fuel pump now so you'll be ready with the good, hi-tech stuff when the the stocker dies or you get a better carb set-up.

We didn't come up with it. It's the chassis code in the VIN.

Mazda might not refer to their cars by the chassis code, but other manufacturers do... for instance, I was looking for shop manuals for a 240Z, and the Nissan manuals say "S30" right there in big huge letters on the cover. The VIN on a 240Z starts with HLS30, then a dash and a 6-digit sequence number.

(No it's not part of the Silvia lineup... somewhere along the line and I forget where, the S turned into a Z for the Z31/Z32 chassis series... similar to how the S turned into an F for the RX-7/8 chassis codes. (RX-8 is an FE))

hey Manntis. . .I am still a little confused - you know how on your site it says - "SA22C900001
SA - model code (SA = RX-7 1979-80)"

If you from North America or Australia. . . well As I am in Aussie, and mine is an '83 (6 month 1983) - I still have that SA22C code. . . but every where I read, it says that code is only for '79 - '80 models ???

The VINs were standardized for North America - Australia continued with the original chassis code, one more reason why the 'FB' moniker is a bit inaccurate.

Ahhh, I thought that whole "FB" thing was a little strange! - We also DONT seem to have S,SL,SLE - GL, GS, GSL's and all those other things constantly mentioned here. . do you know if Our Aussie models have a way of distinguishing them? I mean Mine has Power windows, power hatch opener, power fuel tank lid, Air con, but no - cruise no power steer and no sun roof, although, it has front light washers and power mirrors??!!

Light washers? I don't have light washers. Why don't I have light washers? Where do you get light washers? Does it have those cool little wipers like the Mercedes have?

I've got an 82 GSL. Picked her up for $500 and she runs decent. No rust in the storage bins though!

Mine's an '85 GSL 12A, originally from California.
Unlike the Canadian and Australian versions, those originally sold in the states (like mine) do not have headlight spray-washers, not even on the SE's. This option was only available on '81- '85 GSL and GSL-SE (or equivalent) option packages.

Talking

i just got an 82 for next to nothing(ok... it was nothing). but the clutch(disc, cover and bearing) are all a mess so i need to replace those, and probably have to resurface the flywheel too. but everything else seems to be ok.

o well, what can i expect from a hand-me-down....
