What would you pay for a Bridge Port 12A?

For the slightly under educated (me)... what would a bridge port 12A be worth? Motor only.. the motor was used one season as a race engine. Now it's for sale... it was built by Racing Beat using all new parts.

Please try to keep the rants to a minimum..I'm just curious about a community census on the motor's dollar value.

Thx, Michael

Yeah, depending on who built it (and assuming it is just the short block with no carb, intake, or anything else), I would say that 1,000 to 1,500 is reasonable. Also how used it has been.

Have you guys priced an RB engine built with new parts? Go to RB and price out the engine you are looking at.

Talk to the seller and ask how it was broken in, how many races/miles/hours it has been run and average rpm, what type of seals. Has it ever been overheated, why is he selling, yada, yada, yada. Insist on a compression test.

If everything checks out, it's worth 30-70% of the price of a new one depending on the amount of run time and seals used.

After you talk with the seller, post back the original purchase price, a list of the new parts and mods, hours/races/miles run, type of seals, etc. I think a few members wil get a rude suprise.

I didn't price it out through racing beat, I just estimated the cost of everything it would be for parts on a rebuild with an extra 800 to 900 bucks added on for the hardened stationary gears, clearanced and balanced rotors, and a drilled out eccentric shaft. I figured that 1850 for a rebuild (if you do it yourself) with a bridgeport would be a pretty good estimate, and then knocked off a few hundred because of use and got around 1,500 as a reasonable amount to pay, unless of course it was built by someone who didn't know what they were doing, drove it a lot, or whatever else would knock the value down to around 1,000 dollars.

I didn't know how much one built with new parts cost either, until I looked the other day. Good thing I was sitting down, lol. A bare block with all new parts costs more than I plan on spendng on my entire TII install, which will include a full rebuild, upgraded turbo, intercooler, ecu, etc..

I guess it is a good thing that I intend to do a TII install rather than doing a bridgeport with all new parts if that is the case, then. I would still love to have a bridgeported 12a, but I would love the streetability of a TII more.

Ah the dreams that just keep getting shut down time after time again. Someday. Have to keep dreaming for now.

I remember that thread, great looking car. If the bp is in good shape, 800 is a steal, buy it. Make sure you get the carburetion set up right. If you are only driving the car to shows or the occasional weekend runs, the bp will be ok. If you want to use it as a DD, street port it instead.

What is 800 CDN translated to USD?

That would be a steal for someone. Even if you have to pay shipping to ship it to you here in the states.

And I was wondering where I saw your car at, Spool. I had a picture of it saved on my laptop, and couldn't remember where I found it at. I am assuming you still have the car, then? Are you still trying to sell it?

$800 CDN is around $560 in USD on rough conversion IIRC

If all of the high rpm mods were done to the motor for sustained running over 8k rpm, hardened stationary gears, 3 window and race bearings, balanced and clearanced rotors/bearings, upgraded oil pump and ropr, the parts and labor for those mods alone are worth 800+ USD. That makes the rest of the engine a freebie.
