What would you pay??
1984 gsl-se in original condition , all the options (p/s and glass roof), 80,000 miles and babied. Does not need anything and all the options work. Leather seats are like new.. Do you think 4000.00 is too much??..Seems to me it borders on the "little too much" side but...would appreciate your opinion and why...Thanks....cjf......
I wouldn't pay that much, but I don't have that much either
I only paid $3000 for my 85 GSL all original and perfect with 40K in 96. He was asking $3500 and I talked him down. If he really wants to sell it, he'll prolly take less.

The "asking price" is usually at least $200 more than the "selling price" - especially when the asking price is high like that. If the seller expects to receive $4000, he/she should have complete (and regular!) maintenance records - including a recent tune-up with a good compression check.
It's true that GSL-SEs are rare, and nice ones for sale rarer still, so the value listed in the Blue Book can only be used as a basic guideline.
I think most GSL-SEs in the condition you describe actually sell for $3000 - $3500. If it's in your budget try offering $3500, as long as he has records, and did a recent tune-up and compression check.
Remember to take your time, and test everything!

That is on the "high-end" but it always comes back to how bad you want it. With 80k miles you need to have a compression check done. You need to see when the shocks/struts were replaced. When was the last brake job done (if it has been.) Does it have the usual oil cooler leak at the fittings? How do the tires look (need replacing?) Idler arm bushing worn out? Rust behind storage bins? Trans/diff fluids changed? If none of the above conditions exist $4K is a steal for a GSL-SE that you know if properly maintained you can get another 150k miles out of it. How many cars can you feel that good spending $4 Grand on? Then factor in you won't see 30 people a day driving the same car you do. Good Luck!

well, I bought it...I paid 3550.00,,,they wanted 3990.00..It is an awesome car though. 79,600 miles, leather with power steering ..garaged and it really looks brand new..none of the interior is faded, leather is the best I have ever seen...no rips but just a small amount of wear that I can doctor a bit..it runs great..I guess I paid a little to much but , if yousaw the car, you might have hopped on it too.. I now am going to sell my other 84 gsl-se which is a real nice car too with only 89,000 miles but it now needs all the normal stuff...shocks, bushings and some tune up work...and it had a tear in the leather(not bad though) and the leather was hard...any way...thanks a lot for the input, it helped me decide...

hey stinkfist ...I don't have the ability to send photos on internet...I really felt that if I did not buy this car, someone might buy it as just another cheap car to drive around while they save the mileage on there SUV...This car needed to be bought and treated like the kind of car it appears to be...a cherry , full loaded SE...I did not get any maint records with it but if the car looked that good on the inside and outside, it is a good chance the engine was well cared for also...thats what I hope anyway...The oil gauge reads good and the engine compartment is very clean . I am very happy and I hope it turns out to be a good car for me as I do not plan on getting rid of this one...my other gsl-se is nice too but it suffers whata lot of other "7's" suffer...slightly worn seats in the normal areas, faded door panels, carpet, shifter, etc... But this is a very nice car and If I could keep it too, I would, but I start to feel like I am hording cars and I hate to be like that. I would have no need for two gsl-se's...what for?? I guess investment but I don't think they are apprecaiting that much or quickly.....and I do not have the room...I have 5 cars already so this car has to go. I am going to wanna get out of this car as much as I can of course...why not??? I will advertise it for 3200-3600 and hope that it is the kinda a car they want for that price...we'll see...I do want it to go to a good home...anyone out there who is close to NC, come on over and take a look..If you want it , I will even throw in a 84 gsl parts car that still has a lot of nice stuff on it (ie: lsd, engine, power door motor, all body parts in excellent shape)...take care and thanks again.......cjf...LUV my 7's...................................
Way to go, Buckaroo....
Sounds like a really nice little hoss. I'm envious to say the least. 'Course I'm envious of your "old" SE as well. Too bad you don't live a bit closer, I'd probably set up a chuck wagon in your driveway. By the way, for your info regarding too many cars, in our corral we've got 3 1st gens, two 2nd gens (one nose wrecked), an MX-6, the ever present wife's work Honda, a '67 MG, an '85 Saab sedan, and a '74 Saab Sonnet....Whew! And I still want more! So I gotta be Goofy!
Our best to yuh, Pardner, and be good to yourself...

So what's too many? I have an 80 RX, 86 Base, 90 Vert, 92 Probe, 65 Ford F100, 78 HD Cafe Racer, 95 Millenia, and I just had a deal fall through on a 88 Vert for $2500.00 in good shape.

too many cars???
Well, looks like some of you "hord" cars too. When does it become a hobby to an obsession? I have a wife and she will tell me "you obsess over those cars"... She laughs though cause I really am a little nutty..I have collect early mustangs over the years and have three, but I have always wanted a "7" since they came out in 79 and could not afford or the timing was not right. Well, I finally got one (two or three) and now, I am hooked on these cars. My mustangs are taking a back seat...Oh well...6 cars, two car garage..... I need to do something...What a loss if I have to keep this awesome car outside...I have to think of something...
any of you guys have experience with "car dollys"?.. If I can use them to squeeze three cars into a two car garage...hey maybe??...I 'll let you know......thanks............cjf................... ............................................
